Headlight plug???
Hey Kids,
I was just thinking about a couple of things. (Now my head hurts.) I've been wanting to buy some race bodywork for my bike to lighten it up for the strip...since I'm too much of a pig to actually lose weight off myself. Anyway, the standard method is to just replace all the fairings with either fiberglass or carbon parts. I actually want to take baby steps and just remove the very heavy headlight assembly. The problem is the headlight cutouts in the fairing. So, I figured that I could make a fiberglass 'plug' that could fill up the headlight holes in the fairings. The plug would obviously be a lot lighter than the stock headlight assembly.
But, before I take the time to actually make a set, does anyone know if there is anyone out there that already makes fairing plugs that fill up the headlight holes?

Id be interested as well.
However my current plan is to take this damaged headlight assembly I got and hollow it out to a shell...then put some of the tricktape vinyl headlight covers over the lenses.

Not to burst your bubble but the headlight assembly doesn't weigh very much, at least not enough in my opinion to take the time and trouble to remove it. I have a spare unit sitting here and it can't be more than a couple pounds, tops. You could probably save just as much weight taking a shit before you ride

Geez, and right after I post in the classifieds... YCIS I'd be interested in the innerds of said headlight. Need the valance between the lens and reflector.
wannabe, I believe someone in the classifieds a while back was asking for a used unit to cannibalize the lenses for just your purpose. Don't know if they succeeded.

wrong place to to drop weight.
big name racers actually add weight to the headlight and other places on the front of the bike.

Eh...I had gotten a freebie from a board member...he has already claimed the "innards" when I remove them.
It wasnt so much as a weight savings thing for me...but with the lights and wiring removed..why not get rid of the rest. Plus it may make room for other "cooler" things for the turbo project
