2005 ZX-12R??
I see this on LAB.... lifted from MCN.. but cant find the article on MCN...
anyone wanna help try find the link?
quote:
MCN: 2005 KAWASAKI ZX-12R kicks busa out of its class ...
List Price: £8995
Insurance group: 16
Kawasaki have always been known for big, brutal bikes
and the ZX-12R is one of the biggest and most brutal.
With around 178bhp at the rear wheel it'll rip to an indicated 220!!!mph-plus in the blink of a Gatso camera,
and with a 200kg weight it'll do it in sports-touring plushness.
But its sporting side will also wheelie into infinity or easily lay darkies on corner exits.
Intimidating figures and performance for sure,
but everything's kept under control by impressive cycle parts.
For such an intimidating bike
the ZX-12R handles exceptionally well,
with quality suspension and brilliant brakes,
but its real stamping ground is limit-free autobahns.
As a performance mile-eater it can justifiably lay claim to a resurrected Gran Tourisimo tag.
It really is the return of the gentleman's express.
For 2005 the ZX-12R handling came on leaps and bounds
and it's now agile enough to make it a serious prospect on a track.
Better still is the new look.
Restrained colourschemes and subtle colours have never been Kawasaki's strong suit,
but the new range looks mega,
and it's a relief to see the back of that odd wavey design that blighted the flanks of the 2001 model.
The updates have taken the ZX-12R well past the Hayabusa in almost every respect.
Fractions behind the 146bhp Suzuki from 0-60
it nips to 130mph almost half a second ahead of its old sparring partner,
nearly 20 bike lengths ahead thanks to a 7bhp advantage.
Irrelevant on the road, but crucial down the pub.
Now that the speed war is dead, it's no longer about who has the fastest, but who has the sharpest.
And the new ZX-12R is right on the cutting edge.
here's the thread on LAB ... http://www.labusas.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=53984

I haven't seen this particular MCN, but if it's part of a "Buyer's Guide" kind of thing, perhaps it's just, as is commonly done, carried over from year to year except where changes are known.
Or maybe the way they do it is they start every bike off in the system by carrying over the previous year (which will prove correct for most bikes) and then writing new summaries as info on new models comes out.
The above text looks VERY similar to what I've read in a Brit mag in a 2004 article comparing the current 12R and the Busa. Exact same language in a lot of places.
The Brit mags have indeed published this kind of opinion for the 2004 ZX-12R vs the 2004 Hayabusa, particularly their great liking for the B model changes over the A model, and that at least the UK version of the Hayabusa slowed down quite a bit this year.
That's all I think the above is.
Not any super-spy stuff about 2005.

Odd how the Brits and Europe love the 12-R, but Amurcans still think the Busa is tits.
Shame, I tell ya.

Even though.....
Even though the ol' 12R is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, not even close really, I still love riding the beast. If Kawi does some serious upgrades to the bike It'd be hard for me not to consider purchasing one in the future. I love the Gixxer 1K, and the new 10R for sure. But @ 6'4" weighing over 250 geared up I think the 12 is definitely a better bike for me.

I just bid on a trashed ZZR1200. Since I have an extra ZZR minus motor and wiring harness, I'm considering sending my frame down to Computrack and having it checked out / straightened, then pulling the plant from the donor bike and doing a turbo. Since it's a carb'd bike, that should be easy. Mmm...Grand Touring comfort and turbo performance...

I plan on hanging onto my 2002...approaching 25k miles as it is on it...
Next bike for me is still a ZX-10R, as a second bike of course...after that is a Duc...aaah....
But I will follow the new 12's...no matter what materializes or not.

Man, I'd like to see 'em updated - there's really not much out there in a true "GT" bike. But since there's really not an autobahn here to barnstorm it's kinda a dead category in the US.
But I still love the 12 for what you can do with it - haul ass all day long and be comfortable doing it. Good wind/weather protection. Only drawback is the passenger accomodations - there aren't any unless she's 5'3"

August 17 2004
VFR1200 revealed
Honda is to launch a 1200cc V5-engined replacement for the Blackbird. It will be packed full of anti-crash electronics and be capable of cracking 200mph.
Factory insiders say it will be on sale in 2006 and be blessed with the most powerful engine a road bike has ever used - making around 190bhp.
The bike - named the VFR1200 - will feature traction control and the latest development of Honda's combined braking alongside ABS.
Read the full story and see more pictures in the August 18 issue of MCN.
