Wednesday 8/18/04 I just got back from Walter Reed AMC! Hatch is fine and talking trash to anyone that will listen. He ate some of Charles Jerky and we went to see Burns. Burns was still in ICU, but he was doing the "EXACT" Same thing Hatch was doing Monday! He was all over his bed and muttering things and they had sheets wrapped around his legs trying to keep him in Bed! My guess in that by Friday, they will have him out of ICU and he will be 99% like Hatch is. I gave his wife some of your Jerky for him also.

They are now "Normal" size so the swelling is all gone now! Man 0 Man, they went from the size of Greek Gods to normal people in 2 days! Now, Hatch looks like he is maybe 6'1" and 200 Pounds and Burns about 5'11" or 6 feet and maybe 180 to 190 pounds! I will go back Friday to make sure Burns is out of ICU!

Kill or be killed,

If they win then they are right because they won over our warriors or drained them. Either way victory is in the hands of the one who is willing to go the distance.

Outlaw, in this case it is more like what Swft or Y2K said. You can have the Military Victory, but you cannot win the war until it is what the "People" want. Right now, I do not think they have any idea of what they want? They have been brained dead for so many years that which ever way the wind is blowing that day it is the way they are going to go! Remember also that we are the outsiders there. Even Great Britain could not beat us at home!

Mike I am taking that picture and another write up to them tonight. The good news is Burns is being moved to Ward 75 today which means he is now out of the woods also!

I have pictures of Hatch and Burns up and talking! Tonight I had the "PLEASURE" of pushing Tyler Hatch out on the Hospital where he got up and walked onto the Shuttle to the residence where he will be staying for a while longer.

Tonight I also had the pleasure of handing the picture and write up that you have above and watch John Wayne Burns read about himself. I got to watch him eat and I talked to him for a while. He still has a little way to go, but he is in "GOOD" condition!

Fish or Freek if I could e-mail the pictures you could put them up?

Glad to see everyone's interest in my boys from the 39th. I have few other friends over there, serving with Charles and I try to always keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

All I ask is that we remember ALL that are currently serving our country overseas and here at home. I was blessed to have many friends (HDL) and family return. Like many of us here, we still have neighbors, friends, co-workers and family who have yet to return. Here's wishing them all a safe return and "happy hunting".

HDL, the fact that you are here answered everything for me. Either yesterday or today Jonathan Burns left the Hospital Mologne House (What or where ever that is ) But it is the fact that he is out of the Hospital. So as far as "These" guys are concerned, they are OK! I am hoping neither of them ever has to go back to Iraq. Since Hatch is Regular Army, it may happen, but for Burns, hopefully not!

Man "0" man! If this is wearing me out and I know it is for you guys that are "THERE"!! From the stories I see, Arkansas seems to have MORE than their share of People there. Like it or not, Like Michael Moore says, you do not see any Millionairs over there But in this country where unemployment is high like Ohio Mississippi and Arkansas they have more than their share there. Like Israel, Everybody over here should have to serve for 2 years as the price to pay for being here. It is all of our business taking care of this country including spilling the Blood!

not sure i agree with that communist idea vincent, (communist as in all serve the state to be allowed to live there, from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs, we must stop thinking of the individual and start thinking of what is best for society, etc etc etc)

that goes against the very fundamentals of our country and what it stands for.

The very existance and SUCCESS of a standing volunteer force is proof of the validity of our way of life as it pertains to our culture now.

forcing service as a prerequisite to living in a 'free' country doesn't make it very free, now does it?

You also get the problem of people who won't join military due to moral issues with killing. Now you force them, which violates THEIR freedom to have a moral code that may not exactly line up with the rest of the people around them. not good.

having served, i would prefer to NOT serve with people who are forced to do so against their will. In our current society, of entitlements and such, the mandatory service would be an abject failure. We are not the same society that existed 50 years ago. sad, but true. There would be a great many people who would buckle down and do it, and do it right. and there would also be a great number of people who would be bitter throughout their tours of servitude and be useless as teats on a boar. or worse, a LIABILITY to the others there who were serving in good will.

You have a certain number of people who join military because there is 'no other way' to live. You also have a good number of "rich" people, or people who have no other desire than to serve the country.

(the michael moore statement about no millionaires over there is blatantly false. it is blatant class warfare. it is pure hypocrisy of Moore to detract other rich people, with himself being one.....please don't quote trash like that, it cheapens your POV) ( just one example off top of my head; there was a pro sports player who turned down million dollar contracts to serve in afghanistan. He gave his life, and he was rich. But i think his voluntary service made him more rich in ways that matter more than money numbers)

it IS true that there are a larger percentage of 'middle andlower' class wage earners in the military. but it is also true there are a larger percentage of middle andlower class wage earners in the USA.
Millionaires make up a very small percentage of our population....based on the stats the IRS published for 2001, there were roughly 210000 or so millionaires (1000000 and up)....out of the total popultion of roughly 130 million....

why would there being smaller number of millionaires and rich people in military be any big deal? there are a smaller number of rich people and millionaires to start with....

i served with some VERY wealthy people. some who had rich families, and some who had spent a lot of time and effort earning a living and saving.
i also served with some people who had never had ANYTHING in life that many people take for granted. for the most part i served with people who were from middle-income families. since the middle income families are the majority....it makes sense.

but it is not emotionally appealing to think that of half million troops, only perhaps 1000 or so may be millionaires....or come from millionaire families.

logically it makes sense, the military is a great cross-section of the population. but it grates on people who like to get out their checkbook measurings ticks, using the size of income to judge aperson's character.

prevailing attitudes today?
the more income, the more likely they are to have cheated and swindled the poor people to get there.

classic class warfare. reprehensible tactic that it is, it is still well-loved and VERY good at what its goal is. and that is to create some sort of victim status for a group that otherwise might not HAVE a victim status to claim.

Good Thinking Slug and I understand what you are getting at. To better put it, what I was getting at is not everybody must serve in the "Military" but like in Israel you must put in a couple doing something for the country. The word Volunteer is a little deceptive because you may have volunteered but not out of love for the country but necessity! ALSO with the "STOP LOSS" Order, it really is no longer a "Volunteer" Military. The Electrican I use in Toledo time was up on the 20th of April this year but with the "Stop Loss" he could not retire and is being sent to Iraq this November. The National Guard was never intended to serve as the "Regular Army" and fight wars outside the United States Hence the words "National" and Guard (as in Guard the Nation). Reserves is a little different but still they were to be used as a Stop Gap force while a regular army would be built. Now they are the regular Army.

All I am trying to get across is we all do not share equally in this. Yes there was at least one Millionaire in Iraq and the reason we all know is he got Killed. The Football player from Arizona?
