Brake calipers
I was wondering if anyone had any way of cleaning the freakin calipers to make them look new again? I have been painting them which work nice but dont want to take the bike back apart again. Thanks for any ideas

I use WD40 on the inside and Simple Green on the outside. Some metal polish on the aluminum pad covers.
Take the pads off first though....lol

Nope. You cant access them well on the bike. Two 12mm hex heads and one small allen bolt and some needle nose will get you pretty good exposure.

haha, I hear ya. I've spent quite a few hours cleaning up the forks on two 12Rs. A tooth brush, towels, spray bottle of Simple Green, and a spray bottle of water. Also "Harry'd"* any bolt I could pull out.
Brett, is there an easy way to paint/clear coat the calipers... or should I just ante up and send'em to ya ?

I talked to another 12 guy local today and he gave me a neat and cheap idea. He said he uses a tire and wheel cleaner from wal-mart. It is turtle wax 2001 wheel cleaner. 3 bucks! I tried it today and it worked out KILLER! The only thing I did'nt like was spraying them with water. used the air compressor to blow them dry though. They look great now. Surely a little water wont hurt. Hey Matt it is not that expensive to paint them. I will do them for about 100 bucks. You dont have to disassemble them. You just send me the calipers with the fluid drained out and I plug the line holes with a bolt and lock nut thing that Rog made and I tape up the bolts and pad areas and scuff, etching prime, seal, and paint. Not that big of a deal just tidious with lots of detail. If you want the "TOKICO" machined back in I'm sure I can give Rog some of it to get that done.

They cant be as bad as HDL's. Those fuckers looked like you drug 'em out of the Duck river. LMFAO Seriously I will just dip them in the solvent tank and scrub. Then scrub them with thinner.
