tranny problem?

I was riding the other day shifting from 3rd to 4th when i let the clutch out there was nothing there for about 2 seconds felt like a real big clutch slip, then it was fine for about two minutes, then i was going through the gears again hit 4th again and it was like it was in neutral but i could here some clanging light clanging like it was the gears barely touching each other,so ipulled over put it in firstand now it seems fine, its a 2003 w/5000 miles any ideas what that could be.Iget on the bike now and again some occasional whellies but idont abuse it.

that's just a "false nuetral"....

generally caused by either worn shift forks, or, more likely, the operator doing the shifting. (ie. you. Not moving shift lever the same distance, or firmly enough)

did you have on different shoes or boots? You might want to adjust the shift lever down a little bit by loosening the two 10mm nuts on each end of the adjusting rod and rotating it slightly. As you rotate it, you can see the lever move.

I agree with the false neutral as i described in the latter part of the paragraph, but im suspect to what happend before that with the thing that felt like a giant clutch slip same gear 4th.
