just got home from the USGP
Wow!
What a day. 75 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Had awesome seats right on the main straight about 200 yards down from the start/finish line. Saw the standing start. There is no way to describe the sound. Bumble bees is close? Stayed there for about 10 laps, then went walking. First to the end of the back straight. Unbelievable braking!!! They don't lift until about 100 meters from the turn in. This is at the end of the 170ish MPH straight away! Then left, right, left in first gear at about 40 mph traction control going nuts! then they stand on it bang 3 gears but just barely, down 1 gear right sweeper, then stand on it, bang 8 gears or so all the way around the oval's turn 1 but backwards and down the main straight again backwards. They say it is the longest WFO portion in all formula 1 racing. Over 30 seconds foot on the floor!!! They only top out at around 190+ because the infield turns are so severe and require a bunch of wing. I heard of some team using a flexible element on the rear wing so that it would tend to flatten out on the big section and they picked up 7 Kilometers! The sound is amazing, and the smell of the fuel is wicked!
This was the last year of a 5 year contract with the FIA. However they just announced a 2 year extension yeaterday! I live about 3 miles from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. If anyone is going to be intown for the Brickyard 400 let me know? We should get together. Also If anyone wants to plan a trip to the 2005 USGP??? Or Indy 500?

I used to go to the LongBeach GP...I know of the sound you speak of...the angry rip of a million canvases...or the booming thump in your chest of the GT cars under the covered sections...a get-together would be waaaay cool...
Don't mean to hi-jack, but the TFs and FCs at the NHRA meets are a painful aural delight as well...almost scary...but pain is good

Yes, I know what you are saying. The NHRA US Nationals are here every Laborday weekend and that too is awesome! You have to watch hundreds of door slammers between TF or FC runs however?

Man, I miss the old days when "USGP" meant Moto GP bikes at Laguna Seca.

Supposedly MotoGP might make a return to Laguna Seca. They are still trying at Barber (which would rock for me).

I don't think it'll come back to Laguna Seca. Even with the recent construction, the pits are still not up to their standards. I think Barber is more likely to happen than Laguna Seca.
