I think my PCIII took a shit.
Have only rode the bike once since DGVII, to work and back. That ride went fine except I did notice once during the last two miles from home the bike stumbled a bit. Wasn't really too concerned at the time. This morning decided to ride to work again and it started fine and warmed up fine but once I got on the main road, it started stubling again, I'm thinking thats strange. Came to a light and the motor sopunded like a twin, very strange. Too off from the light and gave it a good amount of gas and it seemed OK again till I rolled off the throttle, then it was stumbling again. Stopped at the next light and it stalled. Fired it up and took off and it was stumbling again. Immediately turned around and took it home, again it was doing the same thing. Fuck.
How do you zero out the PC so it goes back to stock settings? Why would it sound like it was only firing two cylinders at the light? Any other suggestions at troubleshooting would be appreciated.

Question....
Was the bike blowing a lot of raw fuel out the exhaust??? Could you smell gas? Was it blowing gas smoke out the exhaust? I'd say if any of the above were happening you probably do have a PC problem. Unhook it and see what happens.
BTW,....you shoulda bought fishes PC, then this wouldn't have happened numb nuts.

Wouldn't be the 1st time a PC died. I've had two go bad, one wouldn't hold a map and the other just completely died (bike wouldn't start with it connected). If you want to zero the map you need to connect it to a laptop and enter "0" zeros across the entire range of cells in both timing and fuel maps.
First thing you should do is unplug it and ride your bike to see if it's the PC. If the bike runs good without it, then that's likely the source of your problem.

Mine is running awesome, Put a new rear tire on and just changed the rear sproket to a Gold Sproket Specialist 48 tooth and it looks awesome. And runs better than it ever has.
Sorry brother to hear about your problems

Dave in Daytona saw mine when it went "Farther" south. The popping and stalling is when the timing goes to +20 to +40 degrees sometimes and it actually turns off the engine You can see the engine cutting off if it is hooked up on a Dyno at the time it is acting up! It is usually PC3r's as opposed to the PC3 that do this. The PC3's go bad, but not at the rate the r's do!
Later, hook up the lap top (I have a 50 foot cable) you rich guys (do not be sensitive here ) have and click "GET ALL" and see what it says! The Data should all be changed.

mine did strage things and the cable from the PC3r was jacked by the rear sea, so I cutted the trunk and made the space for the PC3r cable and no problem. at first I thougth that she was jelows of my wife, then I discovered the problem.
Hope this helps.

I didn't see any smoke. I will unhook the PC tonight and take it for a ride. It's a bummer cause I've never had any problems before. Hope it's not something worse. I just checked my warranty card and I have til Aug 8th of this year if it's something major. Not that their is anyone around here I trust for shit to do anything to it.
Marcos, I was thinking about the wiring too cause the fit up by the connection from the PC cable to the stock cable under the tank was aweful tight, could be that a wire is pinched real bad or rubbed through?

I recently had a PCIIIr go bad. Wouldn't connect to a computer and was acting funny. Took it off and bike ran fine again. Sent it to Dynojet and they replaced it (out of warranty!) with a new one!
New one is perfect. FYI, the bad one was doing many "funny" things like getting leaner when the faceplate buttons were enrichened. Be careful.......

That's why I immediately turned around and took it back to the house, didn't want to take the chance of messing something up. This PC was bought only a couple months ago and only has some 800 miles on it.

Chris,
A cable pinch (installation error) is a VERY common problem, and could be responsible for most of the bad rap DJ has taken on the PCIII. It's not a pretty situation. For example if you pinch through one of the right (wrong)wires you could be running with one or more injectors running full open and the bike would behave the way you described.
Unhook it and leave in in place and see if it fixes it. If it does look for the pinch. Look closely where the tank lowers into place to see if the wire is in the way. You should have plenty of slack in the cable to install it right.
Good luck,
Dave

Well... (clearing throat)... anyways... ( ) ... As dave said, the majority of PC failures are caused by incorrect cable routing by the user. Did you install this yourself? If you have routed the cable incorrectly and it is "pinched" as you say then it is toast. The cable being pinched, crushed or bound anywhere will cause the unit to short out and fail. The easy solution is to unplug the unit and see if the bike runs correctly.
I know how this whole situation could have been avioded

Had the same thing happen to me. The bike only ran at what seemed to be normal above 3000rpm. I let the problem go on too long and I fowled the plugs. Now it won't run at all. With or without the PCIII. I noticed that I couldn't set my powercommander's throttle position. It was saying that the throttle was at 20% open when it was completely closed. Look at your exhaust tip and see if you have a black charcole looking substance where the gas exits. Did you notice any difference in gas mileage? Mine doubled.

I haven't had a problem yet with my PCIIIr (knock on wood) but listening to the problems that others have had, I decided to check the routing of the wires. I did have one of the PCs set of wires take a sharp turn as it entered the plastic plug. So I stared at that area of the bike for a while to see if I could re-route the wires and I think I came up with a solution.
Let's see if I can explain this without pictures:
There are the 3 large connectors. If you work your way towards the back of the bike, you'll see the X-member, which has the rubber stops that the gas tank sits on. Instead of running the PC wire harness above that X-member, I ran it underneath, following the same path that the wire harness from the bikes OEM computer takes.
When you disconnect the connector (call it C1) that is on the firewall (lack of better term), the lose end I pushed down so that it sat below that X-member. The other side of the connector (C2) is still attached to the firewall. Now run the end of the PC cable that attaches to C2 up from underneath the X-member so that it meets up with C2. The other end of the PC cable ended up on the right side of the frame and C1 is long enough to reach over.
At the end of it all, there was alot of room under the tank once it is down and there are no more kinks in the cables.
I hope this all makes sense.
Tell you what, I'll run out at take some pictures. Hopefully they'll turn out. My bike happens to be appart because I'm waiting for that bracket assembly that holds the front fairing.

pbd.. you are exactly correct.. there is a "cable chase" that the stock harness runs in.. that's the path you need to follow with your PC3 harness.

The PC is not the problem, I disconnected it and the problem persisted. I was on the phone with Roger for a while last night and Rick trying to figure out what it could be. I wish it WAS the PC that crapped out so I could just replace it, but I'm afraid it won't be that easy. I could use any suggestions on where to look and what to check for. It sure sounds like a timing problem cause while I hear all four injectors, at idle and partial throttle it only sounds like two or three cyliders are firing. There is no other abnormal noise coming from the motor anywhere. I pulled off the cover and checked the Muaay advancer and crankshaft sensor and they wre both tight, but the sensor could still be bad.
Any other tips?
Fish, get over yourself dude.
