JE Piston Users that also use NOS or Turbo?
When I measured the "Stock" Pistons in the ZX12, (Remember the stock bike has Forged Pistons also) the clearance was about .001". When I measured the Forged JE Pistons, they were between .0015 and .002 until I matched them to the best fitting cylinders and sanded them to get a tight .0025 at the Skirt and from what I measured this was just a little over .003 at 0.50 up the skirt.
I am now breaking in the rings for about 500 miles (About 250 with ND 30 Oil and 250 with regular Honda Oil) before I put the Motul e-Tech 100 back in the engine. The bike is making good power and seems to run well but the Pistons are "Loud"! I can hear them a lot more than the stock pistons.
My questions are:
#1, Are these clearances (Listed for the Piston set up by JE @ .0025 to .0035 for NOS) for engines with Aluminum Cylinder Walls (As opposed to steel lined Aluminun Cylinders)?
#2, Can any of you using the JE Pistons "Hear" the pistons? ( I also think they will be a little quieter with the 40 weight Oil, but not that much quieter!
BTW, I usually set up an engine a lot closer (About .0015) to get the heat transfer from the pistons to the cylinder walls and to lessen the piston rocking. But since this is for a heavy dose of NOS, I followed the reccomendations a lot closer!

My JE 1270 pistons have some piston knock when cold. The knocking goes away by the time that it is up to temperature. Is yours knocking at all temperatures, or is it just cold as well?

I thought the stock pistons in the 12s were cast.

Thanks Maxxer, because yours should be tighter than mine! Remember I also have 30 weight Oil and it is in the 70 and 60's both times I have run it and it has really never heated up that much.
Read the Silver Book, at least the 2000 model had them!

Vincent,I believe the silver book is mistaken because the stock pistons that i have pulled out were cast.
