Prayers needed....Fellow rider crashed.
A friend's son Races WERA and CCS. The boy, James, was in a race on this past sunday and was involved in an accident. This is how it happened as far as I can tell from the people I have talked to.
James was riding on Roebling Road Raceway this past sunday. He was doing very well and was by far the fastest guy on the track that day. He was running side by side with a fellow racer on the front straight. The speeds were prolly in the neighborhood of 170 MPH. Just after crossing the start finish line the two riders bumped pretty hard going down the straight. This collision broke the front brake lever on James's bike. He didnt not know the lever had been broke and continued the race to turn one which is a pretty hard right hander of about 89-90 mph. When James grabbed for the brake there was no lever and he had no way to slow the bike down. He neded up running off the end of the front straight and hitting the tirewall well in excess of 140 MPH. He broke the number 2 vertebrae in his neck, collapsed both lungs and has a severe concussion. The doctors put him induced him into a coma so that his head and neck could heal without him doing any further injury to it by moving it.
He is expected to make a full recovery at this time. the DR's say there is not spinal cord damage and that there should be no permanent injuries.
I ask this of all of you, please keep this 18 year old boy in your thoughts and prayers, and ask whoever you pray to to help this good kid have a speedy recovery.... I have tried to call Jimmy(James's dad)several times but havent gotten through, I will call his house tonight and get and update on James's situation.....Thank you all Jim

I always have my finger on the brake, but for sure, other bad stuff can happen.

again I want to thank all of you all.....I still havent gotten to speak with his father yet, but I am sure I will before this night is over.....adn I appreciate all of you thinking of he and his family in their time of need.....I will keep you posted.
Kerry, I will do that for you as soon as I can...
I guess what really bothers me the most is, I did a track day just a few weeks ago with James. The kid is stooopid fast around a track. But he is such a nice kid too, he and I were talking for about 30 minutes about tires and his dads race trailer set up, and his Dads Dually Ford F350 he was test driving. The kid is so full of enthusiasm and life that he makes everyone around him smile.....and I just hate to see bad things happen to young people....I hate to see it happen to anyone, but espicially young people and old people....sorry for ranting you all...just doing some soul searching.....

Indeed, my prayers and wishes of a rapid recovery go out to James and his family.
Jonathan and I can understand what you mean when you speak of concern for young racers. While we were corner working at an mini endurace race, we had several riders go down in our corner during the course of the event.
Out of all of them, the one crash that none of will forget was when the paramedics took the rider's helmet off and it was a young girl all of 13 years old. At first, she was unable to tell them her name or if she was hurt. Though she was alert, she just wasn't answering their questions.
I'm sure it was just a short while, but it seemed like forever before she finally did answer them. All the while, Jonathan was kneeled down next to her and was holding her hand while the paramedics were messing with her boots and such.
On the bright side of it, she turned out to be okay and we saw her again at the next event. I wish for James a speedy recovery so you too will see him at future events.

This is what James's dad typed on the WERA message board
"Presently James in the Neuro Intensive Care unit @ Memorial Hospital in Savannah. He suffered a severe concussion, (Major burise to the right front lobe of the brain) they are monitoring the pressure in the skull and so far there is very little swelling. The impact into the dirt berm at over 150 mph also broke the #2 vertbray at the base of his skull. As far as we can tell there is no spinal cord damage and no ateral damage, it's just a broken bone! Lungs were also colapsed but they have them up and working normally. He still is in a coma, but that is drug induced and the are going to keep him on the ventalator for the next few days. Right now, They want the brain to take it easy and just heal it's self. That's why they don't even want him breathing on his own. Thank you for your continued Prayers, Thanks to everyone at the track, thanks to our friends that packed up all of our stuff. Thanks to Richard and Kay Mccoy @ Roebling and all of their staff for their help. Thanks to all of our WERA family, We love you guys and Girls! (Mostly the girls)"

I talked to JImmy last night (james's dad), and he was calm but worried, you could hear it in his voice, he asked me to thank everyone for their prayers, and asked that you all keep them comming until he is out of the woods......as you can see by his post he still has a sense of humor....but....

I had a friend flip his 4 wheeler and they did the very same thing,
Drug induced coma, It was scary as hell, We thought we may lose him, Same excact type of injurys, Except my friend had one lung collapsed,
He was 40 and very strong and with an awesome family for support, And he survived it and is still recovering, It took almost 6 months before he could drive a car, He got sick, From motion, Motion sickness, After 9 months he returned to work, But theres he is still recovering, The frist 24 hours are crucial and the recovery time is very long, Years,
But I will tell you one thing, 15 years ago the outcome could be much different, things they can do today is awesome,
The kid has a lot in his favor, Young and strong,
I will pray for your fallen friend as I lay down this morning,
