Funny Motor Sound

I need some ideas. When I start the bike cold i get this tinny sound that is Rpm sensitive. It rattles pretty hard off idle to about 2500. It seems to go away after it warms up. But even warm , right after start up its noticable. Any Ideas, it is a new sound.

take off your ashtray cover (fuse cover at the top of the tank) and go for a ride.

If it goes away...put 2 or 3 blobs of RTV on the underside..then let them dry before you put it back on..instant sound dampener

ok tryed the ashtray isolation. Not the noise. I am beginning to think its a btm end knock. Very noticable when cold. Closet sound i can give you would be sort of the sound of a metal fan sometimes coming into contact with the shroud. By the way the fan was not on. Please tell me i am wrong about the btm end. I have a couple weeks left on warranty.

Take it to the dealer, have them check it out. If you register a concern with the dealer prior to warranty expiration, and the dealer doesn't resolve the issue, you may have a case for redress in the event something lets go...

a bottem end knock is generally more hollow and deep than what you are describing. You could use the old flat tip, plastic handled screwdriver trick. put the plastic end to your ear, the flat tip against the block or valve cover.

Do you have a rear end stand? Pop it up on there and fire it up and throw it in gear and start modulating the throttle while off the bike and listening.

ok, i think i will take it to the dealer and have a servicing and have them check it out. Now the only thing not stock is the Arrow pipes. No Pc. Do you think i need to reinstall the stock system before the dealer?

ok are you ready for the diaganostics? According them its the exhaust flanges rattling when cold. After warmup they expand and quit rattling. The cure, High temp silicone. Hmmmmmmmmmmm ever hear of such a thing? Well off to pick it up, will report back to see if the silicon implants work. lol

By the way, this makes my Arrow exhaust transplant now cost me $1400.00. This includes the new right side Cowling( because of it laying up against it). By the way, Is there a difference between a 2000 and a 2001 as far as cowling dimensions. Arrow told me that the reason my pipes dont clear the cowling is because they are for a 2001 model. They only list them to fit 01-04. I am under the impression that the 00 & 01 models were basically the same. Werent all the changes done in 2002?

another thread here in the past week mentioned that the connecting tabs were different in 2001.

It's a little hard to swallow that there's a difference that would make the pipe hit your plastic, but damn, you gotta wonder why they'd list it for 2001+ only?

So far i can't find anyone to tell me there is a difference between the 2000 and 2001 as far as dimensions of the lower cowlings, including Gio Moto the ARRow importer. But the right outside S bend lays right up against it. Am now using 2 pieces of ceramic heat shield covered with heat tape to eliminate it burning through.

00 and 01 are the same. 02 and newer changes some... but the 00-01 pipes work fine. Ive installed quite a few Power commanders and exhausts on 02 and newer 12s
