When is no insurance good in another state...

So here is the deal...no insurance is required on motorcycles in Washington state. My friend picked up a ticket in nearby Idaho for riding his motorcycle without insurance when he was pulled over.

So he hired a lawyer who used this defense and got him off of it...

He basically argued 2 points. One was if a gay couple receives a marriage license in a state that allows these types of marriages, then that marriage license still has to be honored in other states, even if they dont particularly marry gay couples.

His second point was, in this case, the law states that a motor vehicle "registered in Idaho" is required to have insurance, and since the motorcycle is registered in Washington, then the insurance doesnt apply.

Of course the prosecutor's argument was you are not required to wear a helmet in Idaho, but you are required to wear one in Washington. So does that mean you can get away with it in Washingto? Nope, you have to still wear a helmet even if you are from Idaho.

Needless to say, the lawyer got him off it. Just passing the advice along to anyone in case it may help them out.

Wow that is cool he got him off. I don't think i would try that in California. The DMV here basically says we make all laws concerning any and all vehicles operated on roadways withing the borders of California and you will be required to conform the laws pertaining to use of them. In other words they will hang you out to dry.
