Undertail!!!

Nice...I like it!!!
http://www.graphicartmotodesign.com

I have a FSMD (???).I ordered mine through HP Mike!!!I don't have this one....

One thing about an undertail!!! When I drag race, we put a 2 1/2 drop in the rear. Well, at launch...I scratched the crap out of it!!! Just an FYI if you are a drag racer!!!!

The thing that I like about this one is that it appears to have the black (non-painted) surface above the tire. This would have protected me from my experience....(scratches)

I like it, looks slick. How much $$$$ and does it come painted? It looks like something I "Need".

Very nice!

That's the nicest design yet. I like the stock tail light and the way they styled the signals. -ZXtra

?????

...uh...where DO you mount the license plate?...clean, slick set-up for show...very, very nice, but not practical for displaying a license plate that would satisfy your local vehicle codes and your sense of motorcycle asthetics...(ie. the plate needs to be illuminated by a light source...and if you were to somehow mount the plate in the general stock area, it would obscure the slick turn-sigs)

illuminating the plate

Even if the local fuzz did come down on you for the plate not being illuminated it'd be a simple fix. If Robert has them in red I'm 99.99% sure I'll be ordering it ASAP. I may go ahead and make provisions for lighting over the plate when I do the installation. But I will not install the actual light unless I do catch some shit from the cops.

Ninjaman...those are cools pics...nice...very nice plate mounting...I was wondering, though...how will it (if any) affect rear wheel travel clearance (ie. will the plate hit the top of the rear tire even at half travel?)...I suppose for my monoposto-modified 12R, I should be okay (but I'm a heavy fatass mofo all by m'damn'self!...hee hee)...hey, I like my triple-the-trunk-space DINO-mods, too, but I'm also looking for another possible look/mod for a next possible 12

Clearance......

22348bCVC,
Judging by this pic I think you'll be ok.

I'm a big MF too, 6'4" & 275lbs, I was concerned about this as well until I looked at this pic. Worst case scenario is that you might have to bend the plate back a little more. That's cool with me because that makes it even harder for "The Man" to read it. There is a guy that lives up in Union City that has a slick undertail on his R1 and his plate is mounted similar to that but he has it bent to the point that it is almost impossible to read. I've asked him if the fuzz ever tried to nail him for "Failure to Display" and he said no, and added that he had been pulled over a few times for speeding. Hell I'll chance it, but I don't think I'm gonna buy one if I have to fuck with getting it painted. You're talking about tacking on probably $100 by the time you get the "Right" paint, clearcoat, etc. and then pay someone to shoot it. I'm just hoping that Robert has some in red by now.............

You can buy license plate bolts that have a light built-in. Two to a plate should be plenty of light!

Yeah.....

You're right Hondo. That shouldn't stear anyone away from buying this trick undertail. I'm more upset with having to give up some of my underseat storage space than anything. It does suck that if I buy this thing I'll have to put that little box back in under the seat to house the computer. Atleast according to Robert's installation instructions. I may be able to do something different if I get one. But it's a ZX-12R not a goddamned Gold Wing, so I'll get over it I guess. Have any of you had any contact with this guy about getting one in red????? I think it's been awhile since his website has been updated, so I'm hoping he has red available now.

...thanks for the pics, Ninjaman...it's clearer to me now...you're right, this is not a GoldWing...I wish I could post DINO's mods...slick...very slick...I can store a spare face-shield, a windbreaker (to wear under my Sonic jacket when needed), my cell phone, two pagers (the job), a flat-kit, a quick-stand, disc lock, baseball cap, sunglasses, reading eyeglasses...and I still have space left over to stuff more things in there...like a spare t-shirt, socks, underwear, toothbrush/toothpaste...no shit!...the bottom is flat and in line with the tail section's lines...very very clean...the evaporator canister was nixed and the ECU now sits forward and right under the back part of the drivers seat...my PC3R is velcroed to the ECU...and when I modify the rear seat, it'll add more space towards the top (I'm trying to figure out a way to eliminate the rear seat and keep the cover section hinged to the subframe ala CBR929)...it sounds like alot of room COMPARED TO STOCK...well, IT IS!!!

22348bCVC,
Yeah I wish you could post pics of Dino's mods too. If Robert ever gets back to me and lets me know about the "Red" undertail I will probably review his installation pics and may try go an alternate route when mounting the computer.

I'm not gonna sweat it much right now because I don't think I'll order the undertail if I have to go through the ordeal of getting it painted. The only way I will is if the price is reduced enough to make it worth my while. I think I read where one in primer is only $15 cheaper, no bargain in my book. But I will still give Robert props on a slick looking product.

If he can get a red one to me though, I'm buying it. I'll worry about the lack of storage space later. Like the ol' saying goes "There's more than one way to skin a cat".

Ok here's the deal.............

I just got off the phone with Robert, who I must say is a damned nice guy.

He's gonna ship me a red one out within the next couple of days. He said that I am the first person to order the red and he is anxious to see how it looks, and to see how well the paint matches up. He told me that if the paint didn't match up he'd do whatever it took to make it right. He also told me he wanted some photos of my bike when I finished the job so he could put them up on his website. Cool eh?

Also, FYI to everyone the kit is supposed to come with an led light for the license plate.

Now to the good stuff. I told him that it was obvious had a flair for design, and was very talented. I asked him had he considered making any "purpose built" flushmount turn signals for the front of the 12. I told him I'm sure that if he made them they'd look awesome, and that I know he could sell a ton of 'em. He said that he thought that the front turn signals on the 12 were the same as the ZX9R, and ZX6R, and that they actually had something on the drawing board concerning this. Kinda in the development stage so to speak. He told me if all those bikes signals would interchange that it would be a project that he would definitely go forth with, but it wouldn't be financially smart to produce flushmounts that would fit only the 12. I think that the front turn signals on all the ZXs are the same, if so,we may have some cool flushmounts in the future. He even talked of the possibility of using leds to do this. I hope it materializes because this is something I've wanted to see come out for awhile. I wanna see this happen FO SHO!!!!!!!!!

What do you guys think? Would they sell like hotcakes or what???? I mean as long as they were priced within reason, and I think they would be.

Oh yeah...

I'll try and snap a few pics during the installation if I run across anything that isn't covered in Robert's installation instructions. They look pretty informative though.

This is my idea for flushmount front signals.
1. LED
2 Make them socket in to the OEM mount,
3. Style them after the 12's winglets with LED's this would be easy and allow for quite a few to be in it.

Ninjaman12R...I'll try to get together with ddpete3 and maybe he can take pics and post it here...DINO's design is a straight forward affair asthetically, with a major mod to the existing under-tray, the removal of the existing trunk box, four or five panels of his design, the relocation of the ECU, elimination of the charcoal canister (CA. models), and two types of rear turn sigs options...we did mine at Laguna last year in a few hours (plus full muzzy install!)at speed150f's shop in San Jose while fish was thrashing with his head bearings repair...it is my opinion that DINO is a motorhead sage with cool ideas...DINO!...do you have any more of your kits?...are they still available?

Yeah.., do that

Yeah if you can get pics to let me see what you and Dino did I'd appreciate it. I'm gonna try and retain as much space under the seat as possible when I do this undertail project. But I want it to be "Right". If the only way to do it "Right" is the way Robert has it layed out then that will be the way. But I don't mind fabricating a few parts and relocating some items if need be.
