headlights and FI light
history...got bike saturday.
Bike came with an alarm.
battery was dead sunday.
new battery on monday.
my headlights go off while I ride. If I change the rpm's it comes back on
my FI light comes on if I ride at a constant rpm for a while
dealer picking up today, but was wondering if you have an idea?

Just an educated guess...might not be charging enough. A low charging rate and low battery will affect the operation of the fuel injection . I hope the dealer can help you.  -ZXtra

And when my g/f picked me up at airport yesterday, my car was overheating...so it is in the shop too....so, now all I can do is sit on my ass and play Yahoo pool.

Sounds like the alternator could be taking a shit. The headlight dropping out seems like a clue. The relay that controls the headlamp gets its power directly from the alternator.

They can't figure out the problem.
They got a new bike and was exchanging relays and parts back and forth with it and still can't figure out the problem.

I agree Ted. The yellow wire coming off the alternator goes directly to the headlight relay and energizes the relay coil once the bike is running. It seems that the shop could find out if it was the alternator by cranking the bike, and then pulling the positive lead off the battery. That, or take a voltage check at the battery with the bike running. If the alternator is charging I'd say voltage should read in the 13.5vdc range. What's your take on this Ted???

...ddpete...take these posts to the shop...maybe it'll help them track the problem down...remember, you're not paying all that money to have your bike sit in the shop while they multi-task themselves and "get to your bike when we get to it"....

I'm having a similar problem. My headlight's went out
completely. Fuse's were fine, manual suggested it may
be the junction box. Took it to the shop and got a new
junction box under warranty. Light's were back to
normal. I went for a ride tonight and hit a backroad. In
third gear I wound it out to redline. Complete blackout!
About 140mph and the fuckin' light's went out. No
street light's or nothing, just the running light above the
headlight's. I'll be going back to the shop A.S.A.P. I'll
let you know what they say.

Could you've got the switch wet during a wash? FWIW On the way home from Road America, in the rain, I noticed my Hi beam indicator on while still on Low. Switched to Hi and back to Low. Cleared. Happened every 5 miles or so about a dozen times. Blew out the switch good when I got home and it hasn't happened again. Only been in a downpour a couple times since.

Just called them...they said it was the alarm putting a drain on the electrical system...the alarm people came out and put a relay in it because they couldn't replace the brain or some crap like that....we shall see

Mine did some of that too
Hey guys,
My 2000 (faster green model) did some wierd things like that too. The head lights would flicker when the engine was reved up. all of the lights (dash, tail, turn, etc) filckered some of the time, but not always. I started looking around and discovered that the negative battery cable had worked its self loose. My FI light never came on however I tend to agree with the idea of NFG.

they spent days looking at it, taking apart another new 12 to see what things were, calling in a special electrician...then the alarm people came in and the alarm "brain" was bad and causing a drain on the system....
So, the alarm people gave the dealer a free alarm and are getting charged for all the man hours it took to diagnose the problem with my bike...kinda ironic.

See I was right. The battery WAS NFG. (except the alarm made it that way) Oh well, I was close.
