Dont scold me...but I finally broke down and did it...
Well after spending who knows how many hours yesterday with the bike up on the service stands, I was fed up with it all and went out today and didnt compromise. Spent a good $200 on a Craftsman tool set, and a half-inch torque wrench and 32mm for the old rear axle.
Those Shopko tools for ten bucks broke one too many times, and I was tired of my riding buddies coming over with all their tools to help me out.
I am not to ever mislead anyone into thinking I am mechanically inclined, but Dino has given me some motivation and I sure try to do whatever I can to work on my bike. I quickly realized though, with the right set of GOOD tools, the job is oooh sooo much easier.
First time in my life I've ever taken the front and rear wheels off, replaced brake pads and rotors, did my brake lines, and a whole bunch of other stuff. No one told me it was dang dirty...
I dont know how you all can afford to spend the countless, endless amounts it can cost for all those tools though. I finally broke down and just did it and got it out of the way, since I feel its more of an investment, granted I would have rather put that money into something for the 12....next mod I am saving for is suspension. Cha-ching, cha-ching...

At the prices they sell shit at....a tool only has to work once or twice to easily get your moneys worth
Some of their stuff is great...some of it is Junk...but nothing beats the prices. Most of their tools nowadays come with lifetime replacement.
I usually buy the really weird crap from them thats just so cheap you cant pass it up (like the pneumatic air gun I got for 19.99....man that thing is bad ass. I dont do alot of nailing...but it for damn sure was fun to put 800 nails in my workbench without breaking a sweat
I do however build my "portable toolsets" with their stuff. Like making up a toolbox full of every wrench, socket, screwdriver, allen/hex, etc item that would be used to take the bike apart and putting it in a toolbox for going to the track and whatnot. Plus if those items "walk off" you are only out like 9 dollars

You made a good investment beans. Harbor freight has some good deals but for hand tools craftsman/snap-on/mac etc are much better. Harbor freight are good hand tools to carry in your vehicle for emergency use. If somebody steals them you won't be out a lot of $$.

by the way..noone goes out and buys their entire collection of tools in one day...everyone started somewhere
I take it you went and got that 200+ piece craftsman toolkit (big black abs case dillyo?).
Great start...now youll loose a socket or two outta that...and go buy a whole new set of sockets....then a new set of ratchets....and then wrenches.....then the ones you originally thought you lost turn up under a bench somewhere..or beneath an old part where the tool fairy put it after that bitch took it off the pegboard where I KNOW I put it when I was done with it last(heh sorry..got carried away there)...and boom..you have doubled your collection before you know it

Hey, beans, saying here "don't scold me for buying good tools" is like walking into a whorehouse and saying "don't scold me for being horney"
Ain't gonna happen.
It's okay. We all have the same sickness here.
Isn't that comforting?

I don't think I'd stock my garage with really cheap tool, a lot of Snap On fans consider Craftsman cheap, but if you don't make your living using them I think that's overkill.
I'd be scared to see how much money I have invested in Craftsman tools, easily in the thousands. Just break one, even on purpose, and take it back in and let them give you a new one. I still love that part.

How do you break a torque wrench? Use it as a breaker bar?

Don't know - ask one of the fucksticks that used it and broke the 'lock' ring on it.
I guess it's still accurate, though. I'll have to borrow another wrench and do some callibration tests, I suppose.

Yup, they're 90 days - 2 years depending on which one. I think I heard a torque wrench story yesterday.

the torque wrench the salesman told me was 90 days, but the box says one year warranty, and u have to pay for calibrations after 90 days....
the digital one wansnt worth it he said for the extra money
they had some for 20 bucks that were lifetime warranty, but not as accurate or as nice as the 70 dollar one

The difference between snap-on and craftsman is the tolerance.Use anything cheaper and you run the risk of stripping bolt heads.I like Allen brand sockets also.
