Dare I say it, but I wouldn't be suprised if Kawasaki discontinues the 12R in the near future. The 10R has the same horsepower, and goes just as fast due to the imposed top speed limitations.

It kind of adds insult to injury, with all the hype of the 12, and the unfullfilled promises.

It seems as though Honda has discontinued the CBR1100XX Super Blackbird.

...you're comparing apples to...uh...BIGGER APPLES...allow me to illustrate with a car analogy: The 10R is a hyperspeed turn and burn super-sport-bike (think BMW M3)...and the 12R is a hyperspeed super-sport-touring-bike (think BMW M5)...both are very capable machines (like the 10R and 12R)...both have their place in the manufacturer's line-up because both have their target group of buyers and operators (again, like the 10R and 12R)...each camp will not like 'something' about the other (too big, too small), but each will derive the same kind of ultimate satisfaction from their purchase and use of their perspective machines...PureSport or GT?...make sense?...

...don't worry about Honda...they always have something up their sleeves...ya' kddin'???

i suppose you are right, my biggest problem, i guess, is that i love the original 2000 12R, i would rather see it discontinued and remembered for what it was in 2000, than fall into oblivion in the kawasaki line-up as just another sportbike.

Huh?? What other sportbike can get close to 180 rwhp on 98% of the production bikes with a pipe and fuel enrichment device?
The 02s and now 04s are further refined and make one hell of an all purpose bike for the money.

To quote somone well known here:

"My personal thoughts..........A lighter weight machine with a chasis similar to the ZX10,lighter engine parts, a well balanced, well handling sport machine that is completely controlable yet completely tuneable to each pesons liking........I,m not thinking of just bolting the ZX12 engine into the 10 frame....this would be a machine built to handle the rigors of road riding or what ever you waned to use it for.
I for one would love to be able to flick a switch and have the power curve switch from tame to wheel spinning slides going around curves....just my idea of fun.
This machine would have some really sweet ergonomics.
Im not talking about building a unicycle either"

The ZX15 is already in production I thought

seems to float very well

they keep making the ZX12R as it is right now for the next ten years, KHI have just discotinued the GPz900R in Japan so they need a replacement

If they just made a ZX13R or ZX14R with the same comfortable ergos and maybe the same weight with a good instrument panel that would be awesome.

Just imagine the kind of torque the bike would have...Now imagine how well a beefy motor like that would respond to a good exhaust...

Now imagine what it would be like cruising along at 100mph and you decide to twist the throttle to the stops and the kind of acceleration you would be greeted with.

Maybe the speed would be limited to 186 mph...BUT...Imagine the acceleration from a 13 or 1400 cc motor from Kawasaki withing that limited range...The motor company!

We're talking about north of 100 ft. lbs of torque...Personally, with that big triumph that' out, and Kawasaki's new 2000cc plus Vtwin I think Kawasaki will produce a large inline 4 such as 13 or 1400cc...

If they came out with a 500 lb ZX-14R with an honest 180 rwhp and 110 rwftlb, sport-touring comfort, and 10R good looks, it's "Bye Bye, ZX-10R".

I bet that for 2006 Kawasaki makes the ZX12 like the ZX10, which means the new 12 will be faster then the 10...

Don't count on it, you be hard pressed to get them to do the developement to make that happen. It has it's place in the market now and that is not even closse to the 10R. I have both bikes '0012R and '0410R and there is no comparison, comfort, acceleration, handling, weight, size, although the breaks on my 12R are very powerfull, so are the breaks on the 10R, but lack the feel of the 12R and the 12R is faster. Not buy much, but faster and the it has much better wind protection.

ya I have the zx 12 sitting right next to my 10r. I cant even ride the dam 12 unless im riding 2 up cause the 10r is just way more fun. My 10r is faster than the 12r no questions asked. done numerous back to back runs at the strip and roll ons starting in second on the back roads. When i drive the 12r it feels slightly faster than my 10r down low of course from the torque but up top the weight difference is to much. Faster speed at the strip with the 10r with just a hair better et. Back to back roll ons with my 12r (my track buddy riding it) and me on my 10r, the 12r jumps it everytime in second gear by about 2 bike lenghts at the start and the 10r slides by it every time slowly. Now we switch bikes and im on the 12r, same results he slides by me on the 10r (same weight riders). the 12 is stock and made 158 hp on a dynojet 250, and the 10r was stock to. the boys in the 1000ss class are running quicker on there 10r than there old 12r with same mods also. My 10r now has a full system arrow and custom map and eats my 12 for lunch with the same back to back runs. like the 12r but the 10r is amazing.

Fish,
you obviously know what is going on, My info is that the same man who headed the design team for the 10R has been given the job for the new 12R and that we are in for some big surprises in the very near future!

Does this sound right? I am to meet the man himself in the next couple of weeks as he is coming to OZ for a Holiday.........then on to the US. Have seen some pics and spec's on the new 12R but to say would be my NUTS on the Chopping block!

'04 and the '05

I called Kawasaki itself and asked what exactly are the differences in the bike in its entirety. There is only one difference. In '05 the ZX12R comes in Flake Black only! That's it in a damn nutshell! Bike is identical to an '04 but only has one color tp choose from. Very sad indeed!
