Steel braided lines

I have purchased Speigler steel braided lines for my front brakes that I have not installed yet for my 2002 ZX12R. I have heard (after my purhcase) that many times the length of the lines is incorrect (too long), even when the model of the bike is listed on the package! I would appeciate feed back, and the correct length the lines should be, before I start this next project.

FYI - I installed DP racing pads in my Hayabusa. The brakes seemed to lacking bite, and were not nearly as strong as my ZX12R, even though they have the identical calipers. I have not installed braided lines yet. They made an incrediable differance. I would say the bikes stops 25-30% quicker now, and the brakes are predictable with great feedback. I will difinitely put them in the 12R as well. They have street and track pads, so I called DP and they recommended the race pads for all applications. The only differance is the ceramic backing to keep the heat away from the brake fluid. I found out about these pads from an article in Sport Rider "Old Verus New". They modified a four year old ZX6, and an R1 (Pipes, PC, tires, suspention mods, etc.), to see if they could out perform the brand new models in stock form. They were so impressed with the pads, that I tried them in the Busa.

don't know about Spieglers, but my goodrich (i think?) lines were defintiely too long. some slack is necessary of course as it will be taken up when the forks are fully extended, but mine have WAY too much slack. acould easily lose an inch or 2. as u said, heard similar comments from other people.

Only place I know of that will for sure get you the correct length lines is Spencer Cycle. I got my goodridges from Doug and they fit perfectly. On the other hand a set that got ordered from Lockhart were way way tooo long...

Here is a picture for visual. Notice the angle of the fitting going to the caliper. Simple really.

Please also note... the longer brake line goes to the "clutch" side caliper.
Simple really!

Interesting I have my brakeline just the opposite. My fitting doesn't drop down like yours. It points straight up. Both seem to work..

I didnt like the lines bunching up around the reservoir..... so I tried it this way. Cleans up the install, even when lowered!
