Sparkplugs?
It seems that many of us have never even had our plugs out of the bike, never mind put "optimum" plugs in.
1. Is there a better plug than stocker?
2. Does it make a difference wrt which plug to use if higher compression is used (1270, 1361)?
3. How long should the origional plugs last?
It is such a pain in the butt to get at the plugs I don't wanna screw with em unless needed.
Any input would be much appreciated

Kawasaki offers a "cold weather" plug, probably a heat range hotter. Is a colder plug available?

It is not so hard to change plugs...
it takes maximum half an hour.
You should have sparkplug tool in you toolbox supplied from Kawasaki.

Entropy, probably the stock plugs are the best design. The dual ground straps are the tits! I sure would like to have a couple of sets of colder plugs and one set hotter. The dealer gave me a blank look when I asked about colder heat ranges. I guess I'll have to look up the part #'s and take them to the dealer. Having not looked at mine yet I'm guessing colder would be better for higher compression, N2O, turbo etc.

here are the numbers
ZX12 plugs
92070.....92070-1254....PLUG-SPARK,CR9EKPA....4
92070A...92070-1255....PLUG-SPARK,CR8EKPA....4
I assume that the 92070 is the stocker, and that 92070A is colder?, hotter?
I'm gonna buy a set for my 1361 and am leaning towards the stocker. I will be uding Nutec soon, if that is any consideration.
Any comments??

The 8 is hotter. We haven't used anything but the stock ones in any of the 12's we've run. This is mainly due to the fact that there really aren't any alternatives and there doesn't seem to be a need. I have run the surface gap race plugs at Bonneville (piston clearance issue) but they are very expensive and there is no need in general.

Denso makes a plug that the race teams use that is a iridium plug. I have seen busas and 1000's gain 1.5-2.5 hp with them. They are the IU27 if you guys use the same as the busa plugs and they go for $12.50 each. Let me know if you need a set.

Charles,
thx for the info. I have no idea which Denso Iridium plug a 12 would use. I'd be willing to buy some and do tests, but not until I get some degree of consistency at the 1/4 mi. I'll get some new stockers tonight, but would be ready to buy some iridiums in a couple months IF I had some idea which ones were applicable.

what is the stock plug part number? I see the CR9E is so the IU27 will be your plug. Just let me know when you are ready.

Charles, were these stock motors that gained 1.5-2.5 hp by just changing out the plugs?

I have the stock plugs also in the nitrous 12, about 20,000 kms so far and seem fine. 255hp@142ft.lbs if that won't wreck them I guess nothing will.

Haven't been reading this site for a month due to Xmas holiday. But during this time I changed the plugs for first time and the bike has now 48000km(=30000miles) and the plugs looked still quite good. I've couple times checked some plugs during this time but they've always looked good. And in cars they change these same cind of spark plugs only every 100000km(=63000miles) so I figured that the half of it is a good frequence. I also changed the front fork oils. It wasn't very hard but You need the special tool or something to compress the spring before You can change the oils. But I got away without the special tool with little work.

Would one of you technicians out there mind explaining to me what causal relationship a sparks plug's heat range might have with power output. I might have missed something in the last 40 years and I always like to catch up.

lost 3 tenths with new plugs!!!!!!
only got 3 shitty passes last Sun nite and dropped 3/10's from my previous best. GODDAMN new spark plugs!!!!!! Of course it could't have anything to do with lighting up the rear tire on the 2-3 shift and going into the limiter, could it???

Denso vs NGK
Not that this means anything but, I thought I'd mention it. At 50,000 miles I thought I would change the plugs in my truck (Toyota). I pulled the first three plugs on one side of the V6 and found them to be perfect (like new). I then pull the first one on the other side and it's about a third worn (I'm thinking OH SHIT!). The other two on that side are also worn the same. So I'm thinking there's probably a problem with the ignition. I take some more time and lay the plugs out on the bench and I notice that there are two different plugs (three NGKs and three Densos). Needless to say the NGKs were perfect and the Denso's were the worn ones. Moral of the story is, all plugs are not created EQUAL! I'm sure I could have gotten 100K out of the NGKs. I wouldn't even consider using any thing other then NGKs plugs.
