Bike won't start
Driving down the freeway it just started to loose power.Pull in the clutch and she dies.Take the battery in and get it load tested and charged and still the bike won't turn over?.The guages cycle and you here the fuel pump but all that happens is a single click like the starter solenoid getting power but no turn over.Tried another charged battery and the same thing happens.Checked all fuses including main fuse by the battery and all were good.Ground from battery to cases looks good and so does the hot wire to the starter?
Were do i start?

prolly worth grabbin another starter and swappin it out just to isolate the problem. if i remember correctly, if the solenoid is getting power, the starter is too as they share the same power feed. so either the starter itself is shot or ... the solenoid is used to switch on teh power for the starter isnt it? maybe it's jsut the solenoid then, ie. it engages but doesnt flip the switch for the starter? of course, that doesnt really explain why the bike would die in teh first place, unless it was somehow draining power.

I do not know about turning over, but a bad Power COmmander can cause Hydraulic lock in the Cylinders. This should go away and you see a higher Oil level in the sight glass.

I have no power comander hooked up and have tried switching the ecu's but thats not it.Freek,I'm wondering if the starter is crap if it could drain the battery and cause the bike to die?I think you have to drop motor to change starter.EEK
Going to try a different battery tray with the starter relay next before dropping it off at the dealer tomorrow.

Isn't the starter completely out of the system once you release the start button? So I don't see an electrical drain. Unless the solenoid is faulty but you said it clicks so I'm guessing its fine. Even if the starter was continuously engaged, wouldn't it free spin and the power drain on an un-loaded starter be minimal? If it was a fuel problem, then it shoud at least turn over, right? Problem internal to the engine? Overheated, bad rings...seized engine? Like you said, EEK. I'm just guessing and I'm hoping for you that it turns out to be a bad wire to the starter or a bad ground.

The Starter Relay would be the first place if I had no PC3.

and the starter is pretty easy to get to. you do not have to drop the motor.

Ok,I'm getting somewhere now.Put the battery tray into the other bike and it started no problem.I have the tank off so i dissconnected every connection i could find one at a time and still it turned over fine.Took the starter off of a spare motor and connected it to the starter wire on the battery box(disconnected the one on the bike)and let the starter hang.CLICK!
There's my sound i was looking for.So I grounded the starter to the frame and it spun over like crazy.Looked to see if the starter mounting bolts were loose but everything looks tight.
So I'm pretty sure i need to swap starter because it must be grounding inside or something? Not sure why it drained the battery but this is at least making a little sense and i think i can get the starter out without dropping motor.YEEHAA
Vincent, what do you think??Anyone?Could a bad starter cause the bike to loose power(SPARK)and die.And the battery still check out ok?lol

I'm admittedly slow, but hey, at least I'm thorough.
Cowboy, if I follow your last post correctly, you have just verified that your battery and wiring TO the starter are ok.
As pdb1964 pointed out though, I can't see how anything related to the starter would have caused the bike to die on you as you were riding it!
I understand that it won't turn over, but I would think that the cause is goin to be related to why it died in the first place.
Whatever it is, I do hope it's easy to fix brother!

DO you have a friend with a ZX12 or a second ZX12? Try your ECU in the other Bike. Do not try a good ECU in your bike because if there is something bad in your bike, you do not want to knock out a good ECU. "I Still feel that the problem is the Starter Relay" Period~!
About your question, the main Battery cable, one goes to ground and the other to the relay and from the relay to the Starter. There is a lot of juice to be lost there. Clean up all the battery cables and check them with an Ohm Meter to make sure. also take a look at your main Fuse and others just to make sure.
Remember Electronics are magical. You can replace every Item and it work. Then remove and change them back and still work!

So, in the end, what was the cause. From the above post, it doesn't look good
