Jesse,
Your lever does look like it's rotated too far CCW. That can be due to:
1. a short stack (incorect number or thickness of plates)
2. the release rod slot not engaging correctly on the pullrod
3. you left out the thrust washer BEHIND the basket on top of the ball bearing
As usual my advice is take it all apart and start over, checking everything as you go.

OK. I triple checked everything. It is the way it is supposed to be. This is a brand new kit. Zero miles. If I take one of the Muzzy steels out and replace it with two of the stock ones it seems OK. Why is this? Anyways, is it OK to do that? Why would I have to when everything is brand new?

jessz1, when I installed my Muzzy clutch kit(with stock basket) the stack height was 2.214. Shop manual specifies 2.24~2.27. Don't know if right or not but I replaced 1 thick steel with 2 thin original steels and got stack height of 2.270. Works just fine.

The steels are thicker in the Muzzy kit. That is why you need fewer of them. By exchanging two of the steels with stock you've shortened the stack. That should make the condition shown (angle of the lever) worse not better. Some piece of information is missing here and I can't put my finger on it. Don't try and match the stock stck height. It is not relevant. The stack height is simply a spec. that allows the shop tech. to determine if the clutch pack is serviceable or worn out.

Doug, reread my above post. If I take one of your thicker steels out and replace it with two of the stock ones, my lever is where it is supposed to be. Stack height is where Kcadbys is at also. I'll call ya later to see if we can figure out whats going on. Thanks!

Doug, just to clarify my post, I replaced one .070 steel with two .063 steels(.126) and gained .056 on the stack height.

I tried it, and still have it in my garage (not on the bike) if anyone would like to buy it (cheap). I didn't like it because the pull was harder. I have a Muzzy kit and basket.

go figure. I don't remember how many Muzzy springs , 3vs6, I was running then, but spring set up was same in any case.
Yep I'd like to buy it. I don't think I'll mind the extra pull. I'm more worried about exploding something with the extra weight the bike is hauling around (270lb. naked) & will be pulling off the line on the strip next year.
I sure like to see this stack height thing settled once & for all. Doug seems to indicate the measurment f/the manual is not relevant. Ok, if so, what would be the correct measurement? AND where do you measure from?
I assume its the distance from the sharp edge (end of the curve) of the pressure plate to the hub "spokes/fingers?" Is this correct? (like in kcadby's pic above^)
