Extended warranty

Loan check coming in the mail.
hopefully picking up an '00 12 tommorrow

I'm sure the dealer will try and sell me an overpriced extended warranty.
What should I pay?
Can i buy one later from someone else?
any other info would be helpful

Also, what is involved in the 400 mile checkup?
I think they'll sell it to me for $120 at closing.

thanks in advance.

...you go boyeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you can get the extended warranty before the 12-month factory warranty is up...in other words, if you have better things to do with that $400 right now, wait until the 11th month and get the warranty, you don't have to buy it right now...there are several warranty carriers out there...I think some of the board members here have discussed this last year...after harry's blow up ( his engine, not his doll ) maybe the extended warranty is a good thing....hey!...you going to my dealer or your's?...can't stop you, man........

I told your dealer the price I was getting and he made some swear comments about my dealer and said it was basically a good price and I should buy it there.

What about the first 400 mile check up?

...wow

...I'm surprised...I thought he'd at least match it...oh well...400 miles?....I think its just a tightening of the nuts and stuff...you can tighten your own nuts...I tighten my nuts all the time...but I won't tighten your nuts...you have to tighten your nuts by your own damnself...I don't want to touch your nuts...unless its a life-threatening emergency and you need desperate help...I'll help you change your oil with my super-secret-ninja-squirrel fairing removal techniques, though....

OK, at 400 miles, you have to at least show me where my nuts are.

$306 for the extended waranty.

Just do your own 1st service and save yourself some $ if you're mechanically inclined.
I should know if the extended warranty was worth it soon.I will not be happy if my bike is not covered(it should be)You can wait to purchase the extended warranty.Just so you do it before the year is up of the original warranty.
CVC I got your blow up doll hanging right here for ya! As far as your nuts go , your on yer own buddy!Lefty loosey, rightey tightey.

Paid $300 for 3 Additional Years

Dealer wanted $399 but settled for $300. They must be outrageously marked up because he didn't even quibble. Get it for the peace of mind and it doesn't hurt if you ever sell your bike because it's transferable. Congrats on your bike.

I waited until the 11th month, & paid $325 at the local dealer. I had to fight him some for this price, but told him I'd rather give him the money than a distant dealer. He eventually took it...crying the whole way...

Do your own checkup/maintenance. It's a heck of a lot cheaper, & when you screw up, you feel better than when they do! Order a service manual now, & when you get your bike, check it closely for dealer preperation errors.

My ex-dealer made these errors:

Fan fuse blown (fan won't run-overheating)
Turn signal fell off (installed wrong)
Coolant level low/air in system (had to burp it)
Clutch cable not in right side holder (had to remove to fix)
Fairing Screws missing (warrantied, gave me new ones to install)

Check it out b4 riding....

...YEAH BABEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

I think the maint. schedule is listed in the owner's manual...I have a shop manual here you could borrow if you really need it NOW, Gerhard has one up in Temucula, and I have another one on order (should be here by now)...think someone was selling it on CD here, too, or soemwhere else...get yourself some 1070 oil-filters now and order a manual with that $400 you would have used for the extended warranty...I know you'll be busy, so I'll gladly run your bike up and down Palomar if you like so that it'll be ready by Laguna...hey! what are freinds for, right?

Get it! I got the 4 year and it gives you piece of mind. What if 3 years from now you (for some odd reason) blow the tranny out. The $400 you spent on the warranty was well worth it. For instance a guy just brought a ZX 9 in the shop where I bought my bike with the tranny busted up. Mechanic said it was clearly the guys fault for hole shotting and other things. But he told Kaw it was a factory defect and there you go, not a penny spent.

..uh...I dunno...but I'd be careful about posting 'certain' circumstances regarding damage & warranty work...if you know what I mean...get it?...
