Lets talk about radar detectors and this HARD system...
Anyone seen this H.A.R.D. system for radar detectors? It stands for Helmet Assisted Radar Detection and basically allows you to plug up your Escort or Valentine radar detector system into the unit and it will send a wireless signal to a unit in your helmet which shoots off a bright red LED light in your visor if your radar detector goes off.
I saw a demo of it today and I love it. For $160 though is it worth it???
Also I am torn between which system is better. The Valentine or the Escort Passport 8500? Plus the new Passport 8500 X50 comes out according to the website at the end of April. Is it worth waiting?
And not to make this topic anymore confusing, but with all these bands detectors pick up on, the one that I most concerned about is Laser. Isnt laser set up so that once your radar detector goes off on a "laser" signal, that your already tagged and its too late essentially? Any truth to that? I know you have time to react to the K and Ka bands, but what about Laser?
They make direct power cables for these radar detectors for like $20 so you can wire it into your motorcycle. Plus they come with cigarette lighter adapters so you can stick it in your vehicle as well.
And what about mounting? How do you all or recommend you mount it? I cant use an M-stand because of Dino's mirrors. The only other thing I have seen has it mounted on a metal bracket drilled into the windscreen, but I dont like the idea of drilling into the windscreen. I've seen one guy have his on suction cups upside down on his ashtray. Any mounting suggestions?
Pics are nice too. What is everone using? Opinions please.

Here is the only radar detector mount system I have found that specifically works for a 12, but it wont work with Dino's mirrors and I refuse to get rid of the mirrors so any other ideas?

hey Beans....at DGVI my buddy Gene was running that system in his helmet and it kept him from getting a ticket up on the Blue Ridge, it works great and he had nothing but high praise for it,,,,,you cant miss the led that flashes in your helmet...... Ask Rick and Chris how well it worked.....after they got their tickets I stayed behind Gene....lol

ZR3 - Laser 'shifter'...Works *very* well here in WA. (WSP uses lotsa laser)

That's prolly why I dinn't mention it.  Seriously 'spensive. Worth it for the Vette, considering what a ticket does to insurance on it.

Spencer Cycle, but they're all gone now. Netted about 2 in. inside and 3 in. outside with the Helibars. Kept me from buying a ZZR LOL!

I am going to go talk to the dealer about how and if they will install that $1600 system swft has in my 12. I am hopin they can mount the rear piece in the tail section but dont know if it needs an open line of eyesight or if it will work housed in the trunk area. The front one, well, I'll let them figure it out cause I have no clue.

Beans - Why the hell would you want to do that? Have you SEEN the size of the radar detector portion of it? I can't imagine any spot it would fit...And it's *very* hard for a cop to get a bike with laser. Not impossible, but pretty hard...
