OT: Great job by courts. Kill 3, maim 2 = $70.00 fine.
http://www.ama-cycle.org/news/2004/three_killed.asp
first exhibit: man drives in to other lane, hits 6 motorcycles. yes, that is SIX as in all of one hand, and another. 3 die on the spot. one loses leg above knee, the other doesn't wake up for months.
since they were motorcyclists, apparently they "had it coming" in the jury's eyes. the judge sentenced him to 70 dollars for the traffic violations.
3 dead, 2 maimed is worth US $70.00 in iowa. be careful...

Second exhibit: motorcyclist hits a jogger crossing the road at 615 am in tampa. "Witnesses" say the bike was going "almost 80" in a 40. my first comment is this, ALL bikes are *ALWAYS* doing at least 80mph, even if the rider is pushing htem with their feet. they will probably find someone that will testify he was doing a great honking wheely when he ploughed over the jogger who was, of course, wearing a super-bright neon suit with 12 glow sticks and a 500Watt halogen light on her head. (sarcasm here)
should he get book thrown at him if he was speeding and nailed her? yes. but it's funny the difference between the two cases. it will be interesting to see the results of the second case.
keep it safe out there folks, they might not be actively out to get you, but they are driving with their brains disengaged. and no consequences for their actions = who gives a flip.

i absolutely hate raeding things like this. pisses me off so much i feel ya i wanna puke. granted, the 2 sided story prolyl comes into play. there were likely some mitigating factors in the car/bikes altercation, but given the seriousness of the outcome it seems impossible to put THAT little fault on the cager. for story 2, i dont know how anyone can accept witness' speed estimations since they have ZERO certification to make such estimations. i had a court case vs a cop (canada mind u) where his visual was thrown out because the judge said he say nothing certifying him as being "allowed" to make vidual speed judgements. beyond that, what were the details of the jogger's crossing? at night, just ran right into the middle of the lane? or a proper crosswalk with a stop sign in daylight? makes alot of difference, tho i'd thing the rider deserves some serious thinking time either way.

Stuff like that make me mad too. It seems to happen a lot.
