Yes, I would sue Florida for even letting pebbles in their state.

I just don't understand! Why dont these people put a screen in front of these radiators? The Nascar guys deal with this problem contstantly! I know if I owned a race machine that is one of the first things you would do! I think it's a Ducati scam!!!!!! That was a catastrophic engine failure IMHO!!!

speaking of lawsuits and daytona....

WTF is up with aaron "tuckfard' yates?

that man has no business on the track, no business in a professional venue.

if i were an ama racer i would refuse to race with that hothead on the track. in a crash that was CLEARLY yate's fault he snaps and attacks the guy that HE was overtaking and screwed up. wtf? what on earth would have happened if fania had broken bones or something from the crash and then got "kangaroo kicked' as despain put it? a cracked vertebra in the back would have been reallly nice
stand up from crash, back sore, then get kicked by asshole and never walk again....wouldn't that be sweet?

can you imagine if the guy actually HAD done something erratic to knock yates off? holy crap he might just have killed hte guy. hell even pulling a stunt like that in NASCRAP has its just rewards.....

instead this looks like a classic yates high-risk pass that went south. i don't know about the rest of you but when i am in a corner, i am looking through the corner to exit, or beyond. this means my field of vision is to the INSIDE of the corner. had yates gone up inside of fania, he WOULD have seen the maneuver and been able to avoid it. instead, on outside, the one who is OUT there MUST be awake and prepared for the other rider to go bit wide. Even Yates had been going wide on the corners because of tire wear, he SHOULD have realized that the possibility exists that fania's line would go wide. EITHER way he should be man enough to admit he screwed up, instead of saying "Then that guy pulled out in front of me!"
come ON, what, he didn't stop at the quickie-mart exit before re-entering the track?
"Mr Fania, we at the AMA have found that you are at fault in this crash. We admonish you and fine you for failing to prominently display your slurpee receipt before exiting the 7-11 parking lot into a hot roadcourse."

wtf...it must be nice living in yate's world....

(i liked the little clip in thepitlne where basically the guy told ama they were going to do nothing as usual)

hehe

anway...

Two things need to happen.

He needs to be suspended a sufficient quantity of races to ensure that his nappy ass will never see a championship this year.

Yoshimura should be fined ten, twenty thousand for the behavior of one of their riders. That shit is just unacceptable. There's also the behavior of their pit crew, which was only lightly touched on...

dont know if ama will do anything significant, but i'd be surprised if yates doesnt loose a significant portion of his sponsors over that. hope he does, as i doubt anything else will get thruto someone with a personality capable of such behaviour.

Here's the video, doesn't show the first drop kick too good.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dan.vitale/video/fightclub.mpg

Part of the interview from amasuperbike.com:

Yates said he felt Fania was at fault for the crash, although not everyone in the paddock felt the same. What happened after the crash? "I felt like I had to do something, but I didn't like... I just went through the motions. I didn't really put any effort into hurting anybody or anything. He kept egging me on, kept waving at me, like 'come on, come on,'" Yates said.

You know the guy was walking away and Yates ran up to him drop kicked from behind. The only waving that Fania did was after Yates came after him the seconf time and Yates head butted him, then he got the "jack off" sign from Fania.

after watching the video, I am convinced that yates is an asshole and needs to be suspended by the AMA....that was a gross display of unsportsmanship. If I were one of his sponsors I would demand a public apology, and stiff fine and then I would drop him anyway......

Yeah, Aaron Yates is simply out of line and being a complete ASS/MORON on this.

I sure hope he gets suspended for a few races, the fine would probably mean nothing to him. I would expect a loss of sponsorship in the future as well.

New CBR1000RR's were strong, but Maladin and the Suzuki took it. The Duke took pole and led for awhile, but had mechanical problems about half way through and couldn't finish. There was only one ZX10R, but it didn't finished either.

Yates jump kicked and head-butted a privateer rider after they both wrecked when he tried to pass on an outside corner. Good stuff.

looked to me like Yates took the outside then cut in too hard and his rear tire clipped the other guys front....correct me if I am wrong but a pass is the responsibility of the guy doing the passing, the guy being passed is on his line and entitled to it,,,,,,least that is what I was always taught. he is a piece of work there.....

I agree with what you said HDL. Yates totally clipped Fania IMHO. It looked as if Fania kept his line and Yates thought he was clear of him but wasn't. Or did Yates think he was gonna muscle the guy over??? With the behavior he showed after the crash I wouldn't put anything past that stupid bastard. I respect the guy's talent as a rider but He's done a few things in the last year or so that I don't agree with. Causing the crash last year at Laguna, which put my boy Eboz on the sidelines for the rest of the season is one of 'em.

wow - that really sucked

AND it was Yates' fault. Jeezus he needs some anger management classes! Those rider guys aren't too big either - I'm with HDL on that one - one of these days he's gonna take on a MUCH bigger guy and get his stupid punk ass beat in. WOW I hate unsportsmen like behavior!!!

I just saw it on tape and Yates was 100% at fault by cutting in too soon on an outside pass! Yoshimura should be made to pay the damage to the guys bike plus what ever position he was in purse plus new leathers plus a public apology where he admits it was his fault. I was a Aaron fan because of his size and serious riding! "F" Him

Someone asked what happened to the ZX10? The Cush Drive failed on the rear wheel the first time and I can't remember what it was the second time!

what a lame apology

he stated that he saw theother rider stand his bike up

the other rider's bike didn't ever stand up until about the impact time....it tipped in slightly then looks like it might just barely have straightened a bit before it got nailed...he hadn't even gotten in to the corner yet...slow motion the 'flinch' is not even noticable.

bah. yates: you screwed up, admit it and get over it

Here's his press release:

Yates' Statement on Daytona 200
by staff
Monday, March 08, 2004
Aaron Yates has issued the following press release:

Racing has extreme highs and extreme lows. It almost seems like there's no in-between when you race at the level that I do. For me, after racing 170 grueling miles, I realized that I had a chance to win the race.

With about eight laps to go, I came up on some lapped riders. I set up to pass, using the same racing line that I'd been using on this part of the track all day - in both the 200 and in the 600 SuperSport race.

I came through on the brakes on the outside and in my peripheral vision I saw a rider stand his bike up. So I got on the brakes harder and stood my bike up a bit to give him some room. But I was running out of racetrack.

We went down and were sliding toward the wall and I was honestly thinking that I was going to break both of my legs. Thankfully, the impact was softer than I'd anticipated. I got up thinking that I'd raced 49 laps with eight left to go and a second-place finish in the Daytona 200 was down the drain.

I couldn't believe that this was actually happening. But I never had any intention of hurting anyone. The last thing that I want is for people to get hurt at the track. This is not the way that I wanted to look back on Daytona '04. And this is definitely not what I want the race fans to think of when they think of me.

I'm just so sorry that the whole incident ever happened. And I'm sorry if my actions offended or disappointed anyone.

Aaron Yates

Good. I, for one, think that is a good start.

And being a backmarker myself I have a bit of an affinity with the homey that was dropped kicked - he paid to be there, dammit!
