Muzzy Clutch

Can anyone explain the Muzzy clutch to me...i have 5800 miles on my bike and my wheelies have caught up with me and i need a clutch. What does the muzzy $300.00 clutch have that the OEM doesn't. Thanks guys.

It gives extra oil to the otherwise "TOO DRY" clutch in the ZX12r. It comes with thicker fibers and steel plates...stiffer springs...a modified inner clutch drum and bearing race. This kit allows more oil to the clutch allowing longer life and a much improved clutch feel......it IS worth the money.

We have them instock $275.00 plus shippng

I agree...a definite IMPROVEMENT over the stock one. Stiffer springs, better oil flow, overall better performance.

I got 11000 miles out of my stock clutch. The clutch was so burnt dry, my dealer replaced the clutch under warranty. Well, I opted to get the Muzzy one instead, and had them install it for free labor. Still have a complete brand new stock clutch in the box they gave me for free where it will stay cause the Muzzy is the ONLY way to go.

the only part of the Muzzy clutch set up which i am not completely convinced of is their use of 10 x 2mm steels & 11 fibers vs 11 x 1.6mm steels and 12 fibers.

Is anyone drag racing with 11 x 1.6mm steels and 12 fibers??????

do the 2.0mm steels really resist getting blue/warping more than 1.6's????

I have been using the Muzzy set up for 3 yrs and have no bitches, just wondering.

The 2.0s resist heat better. They still warp though.
You can media blast them and get 2x the life out of them if not warped.

Doug,

Will you be getting more of these in? I think the clocks ticking on mine. Also how technical do you have to be to install the nitro kit? Hate to admit Im mechanically inept!

Cheers Jeff

entropy...I am now running 12 same size frictions and 11 1.6 steels, With this setup I get 125 passes from it using the 1087 springs...The new OEM Hub is the key to longevity...

No more 11 frictions and 10 2.0 steels for me anymore, I am saving lots of $$$...

Yea make sure u get rid of the spring plates they just dig into your steels

and think very seriously about the MUZZYS clutch basket this well worth the cash as well, get into the habit of servicing your clutch on a regular basis you will b suprised at how much abuse they have 2 handle! good luck

I thougth that the solution is to change the old clutch hub and basket with the new ones 2002.
Im wrong or correct.?
Is the muzzys kit the only solution?

Marcos, you are correct...The 2002-03-04 hub is a must!!!

For DragRacing buy the BilletBasket with the gear for a 2002-03-04, with the same year hub, 1087 clutch springs, 12 frictions same size frictions, 11 1.6 steels, synthetic oil and you will get clutch longevity!!!...Ahhhh, the famous Snap 'N Slide Technique

The swap is for the guys that have a 2000-01 ZX12s...If you guys think the swap is too complicated then get the Muzzy clutch kit with the BilletBasket...

So I have to buy a 2002+ hub, the billet basket and the clutch.

At the moment Im using a ZX6 2000 springs for the clutch.

The 12 frictions and the 11 1.6 steels, are stock numbers or you have to buy form muzzys.?

Thanks

Ok CR, you've got my attention man.

I have a 2000 bike with the billet basket and "muzzy" kit.

Soon I will need a new hub. Can I buy the OEM 2002-04 unit and have it bolt right in ya think? (or do I need a 'matching year' basket?)

And, I hate to be redundant, but the memory is fading. The 1087 springs are OEM for what again? the 02-04 12R?

Thanks man.

I'd also liked to know can I just put new complete clutch of model 02+ for my 00 when the time is. That is because here I can have the KHI made parts much more easilly. And exactly what parts do I need? And is it a straight fit? If someone knows?

OK, this is what I have learned and been told...

The difference between the 2000/01 basket and 2002/03/04 are the different size springs that are on the basket gear!!!...Other then that all the baskets are exact!!!...I couldnt get an answer as to why they changed the sizes of the springs...

For the OEM basket, hub, clutch springs, friction and steels the best price is RonAyers...As we already know that!!!

BA...The 1087 springs come with the 2001/02/03/04 ZX12s...The 2002 hub on the 2000 BilletBasket will be fine...If you use harder clutch springs then you get less longevity and more wheelies!!!

NinjaFreek...I have tried alot of different combos, and on my 02 with 11 same frictions and 10 2.0 steels I only get 35 passes and thats with it slipping...With the 12 - 11, 1087spring combo I got 125 passes with RedLine 10-40 synthetic oil and 1.60 short times, thus saving me just over $275.00 in new clutch costs...

Also, the 11-10 combo has a short stack height which caused me to change the way I have the clutch cable adjustments set up, No big deal though...The problem is that the clutch stack height is important to the longevity of the ZX12s clutch...The short stack height doesnt hurt the bike, just the life of the clutch...

I almost forgot...The other reason why I get 125 passes is because of the Snap ' N Slide That launch technique is easily described but not easily performed!!!

CR, really good discussion, thx.

And you are on the money about the 10x2.0mm & 11 fibers being "short" wrt 11x1.6mm & 12 fibers.

MTC specifies 2.25" stack height for their 2 step lockup. I am running 2mm steels and had to sub one of the 2mm for 2 x 1.6's (adds 1.2mm to stack) to get up to 2.25".
