Gas Mileage increase Planning to do a 600 mile ride to the Kentucky Derby this year. We plan to have a pretty high average speed which means shitty gas mileage for the blue beast. I was thinking of upping the front sprocket to a 19t to get a taller ratio. Think this will help my fuel mileage? I'll be installing my Akr next month. Hadn't planned on a Pwr Cmdr, however, if I had it, I probably could make a "lean highway" map too. Any other suggestions for stretching my gas mileage?

The bigger front sprocket won't change your mileage that much at all, try slowing down! No really, how fast do you "cruise" at, because you could gear the bike for 110mph but any city/stop and go would be a little hard on the clutch.

keep in mind that you could just ride one gear taller rather than changing your sprocket, except when u'r really hauling ass and are in 6th anyway. but it will be a real pain in city cause the 12 is hard enough to ride slow as it is (gearing too tall). i know that i tend to get far better mileage than msot folks i ride with just cause i keep the RPMs way down, like 3 to 4k when cruising. fortunately the 12 gives u that luxury with the freight train torque.

i dropped a tooth on the front and dropped a size on the rear tire, and I didnt loose tha tmuch gas mileage, maybe 2 or 3 MPG....and I like ithe gearing in the twisties, but need more on the street, I am going back to stock gearing, and staying with the 190 on the rear.....right now my Speedo is off about 8 MPH at 60 MPH. So I just use my GPS on the handle bar, takes any question of where I am, how to get home, how far I have gone, and how fast i am really going....

Gas Mileage Well the last time I went for a long ride, we were in and out of the throttle. I was in six gear for most of the ride but I only got about 120 miles on the tank. It's hard not to twist the throttle. That's like putting a pit bull in a porkchop factory and saying "Don't bite"!!
Besides, I have a Bugly riding with me. He's trying to get something off his chest but I'm gonna have plenty for his ass. He'll understand why they call me "Blu by u"
I guess I'll just have to live with the bad gas mileage.

Have your bike tuned so it is as EFFICIENT as possible. More power under peak means less throttle input at any speed to maintain that given speed.

Uh last summer I rode with Buellbomb up to the Chicago area. I saw a personal best of 170 miles on a tank of gas. (4.9 usable gallons)
Every blink of the gas guage kept pace with my heart....lol
We stop to fill up. Buellbombs Busa only took 3.3 freaking gallons! :mad
I had 18/45 gearing. At 80mph the engine turned ~4000rpm. Same as the Busa.

Blubyu where you coming from? What route you taking? What do you do with the bike when you get to Lville? I thought about riding down for the infield on saturday that weekend but I am spooked about leaving the bike out down there. I understand the Thunder over the river or whatever it is called is a heck of a party too for all you fireworks fans.

Gas We'll be coming from Laurel, MD. Up 70 to eventually 77 and then 64 through West Va and ride it all the way in.
The actual race is not the priority. There are a few bike rallys and fesitivals we want to hit. We also want a good long ride under our belts.
Just got my Heli-Bars!! Corbin seat is next!!
