You guys ('n' gals) over the left side of the pond have to cut down on your guzzling. Our TV News last night had an article about world oil prices blah blah, and said that America had 5% of the world's population, but consumed 25% of the world's fuel. Tut-tut... You must be a bunch of heavy dudes. I mean come on, using 4.5+ litre'd cages to shift a single person from A to B???.
Hell, there won't be enough petrol left in the world for me to ride a bike, by the time I reach retirement age... (that's not really so far in the future. Gulp!)

Yeah, we LOVE our big ass cages in the US - but then again its because we ARE big people. Hell I'm 6'2" 200lbs at 9% bodyfat now (I go up to 230~240 in the fall/winter to bulk) and my GF is 6'3" (very thin - can't tell you the weight tho she'd kill me). I just don't feel right in that small euro crap stuff . Give me my Expedition anyday to a sardine can mini (true mini not the new fake one). I just wish they'd start making SUV hybrids already JEEZ 14mpg sux.

dirtybill, why woudl the govt care? they get big $$ from fuel taxes, and altho i think they are not percentages but straight numbers, the more gas goes up the easier it is for them to justify increasing taxes. plsu they get more income tax frmo the oil co's cause they're making more profits. besides, high gas prices are seen (validly) as a method of reducing fuel consumption which is definitely something we need to do. none of us like to hear what Zed said about our insane gas guzzling and stupidly inefficient vehicles, but it's completely true. the vast majority of us do NOT need SUVs or big trucks or even big cars with powerful engines. we WANT them, but drivin them is pretty damn irresponsible in environmental terms (which of course leads to health terms too).
on that note, deathpulse, toyota is releasing a hybrid Highlander for 2005 model year. 30mpg. hardly sipping gas (toyota prius does 60mpg i think?), but a sizable improvement over the current highlander which is something like 23mpg or worse. my father has the current highlander & i'd have to say it's a pretty sensible suv and does fine for some towing duty too. nto a truck based suv tho so there will be some (very few) for whom it wont do the job.
castor, u are unfortuantely correct. heard this morning it's $1.04 on the island and it's $0.99 in my town for regular.

$2.19 for regular, 87..
Let see now, the fck'in liberals don't want the gov't. to allow drilling in Alaska, or offshore anywhere, or new refinerys, but now that we are running out, (opec cutback, china increase use by 30% last year, alone), the same fck'in liberals, and tree huggers, are whining because the gov't. won't do anything about it !!!! Make up your mind !!!!!

We had a bit of a gas war yesterday in the city of Vancouver and it was crazy!
The stations that had gas priced at 88.9 cents a liter were MAD! other stations that had gas listed at 99.9 or higher, were empty! ~ go figure~ I have resorted to toping up my gas only when it is low. So yes, I was one of the mad hatters in the line yesterday!
I am not looking forward to next weekend.
Catman, I am sorry to hear about the cost over in Swedan. It is just sick!

Being in the gas biz (in addition to Orient Express) I can tell you that on Long Island the wholesale price for gas has gone up exactly 40 cents since May1...that's 14 days!!! And there are no signs of it slowing down, it goes up EVERYDAY a few pennies. At this rate it'll be $3 in no time.

Hey, I am watching the evening news and there is this story about this guy in Ontario...it goes like this.
He goes to the gas station and puts $25.00 of gas in his car. He then gives the gas attendant $20.00 and says, this is what I think this gas is worth. Gramps' then drives off.
The man has not been arrested (yet) and if nothing else, it was a powerful protest, eh?
Only in Canada! Rock on eh!
