heh...I fail to see why getting a return is a good thing...you basically loaned the government 2800 dollars tax free...money that you could have spent through the year on anything you choose.
I pay every year..Id rather have more of my money to spend.

After the time in Philadelphia when the IRS Employees went on strike and flushed the returns down the toilets and shreaded returns, I have been real careful with my deductions. But after seeing last year that the taxes aere not lower, just the amount they withheld was lowered, last year I got $16.00 back (I really had to scramble to get there also). This year, I changed my deductions mid year and also got to deduct $5,000 in Property taxes for my Mother's estate and ended up with just under $1,200.
Speaking of Taxes, DC, WOW!! Because they cannot get the employees to straighten out the forms properly so the scanners can read them, they went to a full size 9 x 12 envelope. When I first mailed it in, it was returned for .23 more postage because of the extra weight of the large envelpoe. So I doubble sided some documents and and got the weight to .9 oz and sent it back. I got it again last night because there is a "SURCHARGE" for the larger envelope of .12 cents! Finally pissed and with writing all ofer the envelope (Some of it mine ststing how stupid the government was for doing this). I got the address of where I could turn it in and rode Peggys bike there today and turned it in. I originally filed on the 27th of January! Now 15 days later (Usually the time for me to get the refund when you file that early) I have finally got the form turned in! STUPID DC Government! Thay is why I do not want Home Rule, but just have my Federal Taxes removed like Puerto Rico!

i owed 71 bucks this year. perfect.
like YCIS said, you're giving the government money for free.
the problem i see with that is the whole "possesion is 9-tenths of the law" thing. THEY have your money and YOU are at their mercy for when you get it.
typically it took 2-3 weeks to get a refund. in 2 days they withdrew the amount i owed. funny. granted you tell them what date to take it, and as soon as business hours opened it was gone...
sad you cannot tell them to give you your money back in the same 2 day period...
government run stuff is reduced to the lowest common denominator. people are advance to their level of incompetance, ie they get advanced high enough that they cannot screw anything else up.....unfotunately that means management in many cases are retarded at best, and crooked at worst.
I don't know if all governments are the same, but judging from themagazines i read from the UK, theirs is as stupid as ours. i have af eeling when you get a large number of bureaucrats together you'll just eventually end up with chaos and mayhem.
