I have never heard of Patty Girl shoes Vincent. But then again you're like a century older than me aren't you? DOH!
I'd been called Honky to my face before by black fellas, back in high school. Didn't really bother me cause the guys calling me that, I knew were assholes (because they were assholes, not because they were black. I had several black friends in high school) and were looking to pick a fight. I was smart to enough to know that with folks like that they got MORE pissed off cause I blew it off as no big deal. I saved my fighting for better things than being called a honky.

Vincent - I grew up in a very rural part of Idaho and Oregon. As an example, at one ranch I lived on, it was a 40 mile commute to and from the mailbox! At another, it was a 5 mile hike overland (13 by road) to get to my friend's place! I remember there weren't many fights about what to watch on TV, we only got one channel! Growing up like that, I never formed many opinions about other people...Hell, there weren't any other people! I learned to take people as they are, and not worry too much about what other people thought of me. Labels and stuff like that only stick if you want them to.

Talk about "PAST" No where!! Swft, you were there. Funny, I also had problems when I was growing up, but it was with the "Black" people that did not live too far away Most of my friends were either white or Mexican. I was a Freshman in High School before I really knew what the differences were Some would say that I still have the same problem and others would say that I have learned a lot! As I told Freek, I am a "Racist"! I hate all racial attitudes, but like people inspite of what they are, not because if it
Patty (I think) comes from the Irish. What she was saying was "She bought some shoes like the white girls were wearing." Funny thing now is I cannot understand what some of the Brothers are saying and turn to Peggy for a translation. I have found that most White people try harder to understand because they do not want anyone to think that they were not paying attention. Where I will ask what they were saying 3 or 4 times !

As we get older, some differences become harder to see, and some are easier. I feel more comfortable sitting and shooting the bull with anyone my age, regardless of race, creed or color than I do trying to have a conversation with a teenager! Each generation has it's own identity, and maybe, with each passing generation, the language and styles have become more homogenous within that generation. I know I certainly have a stronger sense of identity of who I am with respect to my generation than who I am with respect to today's kids.

You know you're welcome to come over any time to work on your bike Tony, you know I love that shit. And of course your wife is welcome too, she was very very nice. Has she started to beat you up yet about building that fence this spring?

A bar is a big task for sure. To do it right anyway. Tell her thank you for the compliment. This furniture building has become an obsession for me. Here are a couple pics of my latest project. A built in cabinet/shelf unit for my mother. Last night I installed the cabinets and shelves and I have built a desk with two drawers that will span the 75" between the two and be floating (no legs). There will also be Oak crown moulding wrapping the shelves at the top. That will be installed this weekend. It's a beautiful peice for sure. You would have to pay upwards of $2500 to buy something like this at Ethan Allen or Thomasville.

Otis, the difference in what you made is the fact that it is a "Ton" lighter because you used god made real wood that is not pressed together with Glue to keep the scraps from being thrown out and the finish is the Natural wood, not a 1/32" Sheet of laminate! (Also Glued on)

Tony, because I buy all of my wood roughsawn at a mill, it was suprizingly inexpensive. Total cost including; Lumber, A1 grade Oak plywood, stain, crown moulding, and polyeurothene (I custom milled the molding on the doors) was $425. What is not in the picture is the desk part which is really nice, it spans 75" but has a curved front and two drawers. It's really sharp but I am not finshed with the drawer construction or finish on it yet. It will be done this weekend.
Vincent it is certainly lighter than if I would have used MDF, I think that is what you are speaking of, that stuff weighs a TON. This unit is not light either as it is solid Oak and A1 Oak plywood. The desk though weighs a lot cause it's 75" x 22" of 1" thick solid Oak and solid Oak aprons and drawers.

I don't agree that calling a white guy a Cracker means he is a Racist White Guy.
I have other names for people like that - and none are starches or types of breads.
