Carbon Snorkle

I can't afford Han's monster snorkle. And I'm sure alot of you can't justify the cost either. I'm supprised that no one has made just the front snorkle part, ( not including the "Y" junction) If Hans or Safetech would make one, Lets say 1" longer, or like the monster snorkle, I'm sure alot more of us would buy them. What do you guys think? It sure would go with all the other carbon fibre stuff I already have.

aside from whether the carbon monster snorkel from hans or others looks better i question whether theses parts function any better than the stock snorkel? the zx-12 that won the streetbike dyno shootout at daytona (213 h/p if my memory is correct) used a stock snorkel. if you can move enough air on a dyno without ram air effect to make 213 h/p it can't be that restrictive. from the pictures i saw of doug meyer's bonnieville record runs it looks like his bike has the stock snorkel. the new 2002 zx-12 uses a larger snorkel but i suspect this was necessary to get the same effect because the frontal opening was moved back into the leading edge of the fairing like the zx-9. looks a lot better but it may not be as efficent. when i see muzzy or other major tuners start running theses things i will reconsider.

I don't know for sure either way. But I do know Kawasaki designed the new 2002 to take on 30% more air. There must be something to this. I felt like there was a definite seat of the pants improvement... Right or wrong Kawi done it this year.............

question for doug meyer

yes i know kawasaki made the snorkel inlet on the 2002 zx-12 thirty percent larger but was this because it needs to be larger to get the same effect in the new location or because the new larger snorkel produces more h/p, or both of the above? i suspect that doug meyer and muzzy's has taken a look at this in all the hours of dyno research that they have done. how about some input on this doug if you read this.

Doug was running in a modified production class (I think) and the bike had to appear stock on the outside. Notice the pipe looks stock too, there's no way in hell anyone would use the stock pipe on a bike at Bonne. I don't know how the snorkle COULDN'T work. Kawi could have made the ram air flow more and make more power but they also had to worry about intake noise. I know some people with cf aftermarket full ramair setups that flow way better than the stock stuff.

Can Anyone who has used this snorkel (Hans) post some real world info like Dyno charts (before and after) or detailed testamony !?!

I recently purchased the Hans snorkel and will be doing extensive testing and comparing on and off the dyno. I will be monitoring airbox pressure by paralleling the intake pressure sensor w/ a DC volt meter. This will let me know the pressure differences between static (dyno) and the real road conditions. This is currently being done w/ the stock snorkel and the info will be compared w/ the Hans after it's installation on dyno day. (DJ250) This should tell me exactly what the new snorkel will or wont do!!

If anyone who has done any testing themselves, please post!!

Thanks!

we need solid test data

we need solid test data to settle this. i sent an e-mail to doug meyer over a month ago asking for his opinion but didn't get a reply. this may be because he does'nt want to comment on products muzzy does not produce or has not tested? i don't mind spending the money on hans snorkel if it produces a solid result. hell i purchased everything else he makes and it looks and fits great. the other hans parts were purchased for aesthetic reasons (there is not enough weight savings to justify the price). i will ante up the bucks for his snorkel in a heart beat if i see the data to support some of the claims for it i have seen on this board.

IMHO (which doesn't mean shit) I don't really see how it couldn't help. Even if the snorkel had the same size opening and everthing was the same, it'd still outperform the stock ram air because the flow is smoother and less interrupted.

Just my one cent, I rarely say something wortha as much as two cents....

Why Dual Threads?

Why did the others post info on the new thread re; the Hans snorkel instead of adding good info to this one ?!

If they had, we would have an excellent thread........

posting on seperate thread

guys i posted on a seperate thread on the effectiveness, need for, a larger inlet for the ram air system addressed to doug meyer. i started a new thread because i needed an answer from doug meyer on this subject and i didn't think he would pick up on this thread since it wasn't addressed to him. i referred him back to this thread for reference. like many of you i am making changes this winter for the next year and i want to spend money where i will get a real performance return. doug answered my questions and by extension yours on how effective the stock system is the next day. i guess i should have asked that he post his answer here, sorry for the lapse.
