if this is the vid i'm thinking of, look closer
thery hooked to what to them appeared to be the frame..
it weas the steel part that the entire back end mounts to.
if you look at the shot of it on ground you'll see where the spot welds gave out ;p
too cold, brittle fracture ;p

Yah, those welds were only meant to hold the rear in place and to be impacted into, not pulled apart.
