Cam timing: Thanks JohnnyCheese!!!!

Long day, eh John???

LAST WEEK w/108/106
_______torque__hp
4000____85____65
5000____96____91
6000____104___119
7000____114___152
8000____124___189
9000____119___204
10000___111___212
11000___101___213
11600___95____213

YESTERDAY finally w/107/110
_______torque__hp
4000____86____66
5000____101___96
6000____108___123
7000____118___157
8000____125___191
9000____122___209
10000___112___214
11000___102___215
11600___99____217

Goddamn! what a long day. John did 6 different cam settings, 5 for directional info, bumping int, then exh changes "a bit" higher, "a bit" lower, to see whether going bigger or smaller on cam #'s added/subtracted tq (and hp).

Finally he set the cams w/wheel and did 107/110 for the the gold. Mighta been able to get a smidgen more w/a bit lower int #, but its a compromise trying to keep good hot starting.

we had long discussions about SAE, STD, Uncorrected; the above are STD, BUT the relative changes are the only important thing. I now have a better hp shape from 9000 to 11500.

Prolly could get better hp with head work, maybe hog out TB's, but I'm heading for the track, enough science!

THANKS JOHNNYCHEESE!

PS: to appreciate the #'s above, and to put JC's DJ250 relative hp #'s in perspective; my 230# Fat Ass ran 155.5mph on a set up which gave 211max hp on JC's dyno... The 1/4 mi calculator says it takes 225hp for my 765# combo to go 155.5.

PPS: I drive 3.5 hrs each way specifically to have JC build/tune my bike, even tho I have some very good builder-types right here in Houston. Why??? Cause the Cheeseman knows his shit, and he schedules working on my heap when I can be there so I can learn.

good info! So 107 still starts good? Even getting it good and hot and letting it sit?

Some other guys were wanting to know this not long ago. This should help them out.

I forgot, are you running stock cams?

Hey JC, this is very interesting, I am running 106/105 with my 1361 stroker, stock cams. do you feel this would help if I raised my exhaust #'s up or is that for the big cam? only? thanks worth a try in my book.

4.6mm stroker, 87mm block, muzzy cams, brock/hindle pipe

Y2K,
bike started flawlessly all day, no charger used. Now that my CR is down to 14.2:1, and the int is 107, it doesn't seem to have any problems hot starting. I do have a big battery and 4 guage cables, but it seems that bigger int numbers sure help.
BTW: thanks for your continued help, YOU DA MAN!

Mike,
I don't know if John has played around much with 1361 cam timing. You oughta start a thread looking for feedback from 1361 guys with specific set up info and specific dyno data, at least every 1000 rpm. The differences between cam settings is more curve shape than absolute numbers, eh?
I'll call you today.

Tip: do NOT dyno yr bike with the rubbers off the ram-air system. we took em off so JC could get at the valve cover more easily; lost 5-6 hp peak!!! who'd a thunk it???
