Okay to mix Dunlop D207 and D208 tires?

I have a 00 ZX12 (with D207s), and the rear tire is wearing out. My dealer says D207's aren't made anymore, and that D208's were the replacement. My front tire looks okay. Could I use a D208 on the rear, and leave the D207 in the front? Thanks!

I was told No. But that was from someone selling the tire. I know that the construction "IS" Different on the 2 tires. I think Jim Owens was running a 208 rear and 207 front when he ran 220+ on the Salt and 210+ at Maxton. I would ask him first and if he had no stability problems, then OK for going straight! I think the problems is "Grip" and how it is achieved. For Road Race type riding, I would change Both. Make sense?

I had a friend run a 207 Front, with a 209 rear. I personally wouldnt do it, he did it and didnt have any problems with it. My concern would be the 208 tends to hold better in corners...I wouldnt want to over power the front tire and have it wash on me...I ALWAYS match tires on any bike. I will replace just a a rear if it needs it, but it will be with the same kind of tire that was on it before...just my .02 worth....

Now this wont be a popular opinion on this board...but I run them and love them...and you can get a set of Metzler M-1's for the same price as a rear 208??? Anyone at the last DG event can tell ya, I will run the shit out of the Metzlers...and I love them espicially for the money...

Not a problem as long as they both have about the same wear. You may what to know a little about eah tire, such as how they heat up, wet and dry traction, etc. I would stay away from riding balls to the wall!

Thanks for the advice! I decided to go with a new pair of D208s. I hope they're good tires. I never really liked the 207s, they seemed to lose grip at the worst possible times! In the cold weather, with just moderate acceleration, they would get squirrely. Anyone like the 208s?

i had really good luck with the 208's that came on my 12....only reason I dont run them now is there are other tires that are just as good, and much cheaper.....

check out ronayres.com or parts411.com for some tires tht you may find cheaper than the 208's.

If you do a looksy back a ways, or search for previous threads there have been some discussions on tires and the different makes. And every tire is a bit different. Certain tires like certain riding styles. Kerry for instance if I recall correctly, likes his bike to feel a little loose, and he prefes Bridgestones. I like the bike to feel tight, and responsive. Right now my tire of choice on my 12 is the Metzler M-1. And they are really cheap. So I guess what I am saying is before you go spending your hard earned money, do some research. So far I have run a set of 208's, a set of Pirelli Dragons, a set of Michelin Pilot HPX's. They were all good tires. But I liked the Pirelli and the Metzler the best. And well they quit making the Dragons, so my choice is....M-1.

Now the Metzler isnt a popular tire with the fellas on here, but hey thats ok. Thats why there are so many different tire manufacturers.
