heart attack

I just looked up my 2002 ZX-12R just to see how much it might be worth these days, considering I bought it brand new...and I about had a heart attack after I saw how much and how fast it has depreciated.

NADA has it listed at $7600 and Kelly Blue Book showed only $200 more then that. Ouch! And to think I paid full MSRP for it, and another $900 in TTL.

Never again will I buy new, always used from here on out. Sigh.

Just sold mine to make room for the 10. '03, mint, low miles, lots of accessories. $8500. From everything thing I've seen & heard, I sold it for "top dollar". If you want resale value, a Harley is your best motorcycle investment. But obviously they aren't as fun!

I'll tell you that if you could value the actuall fun factor people who buy those harleys pay far too much just thinkg they are having fun but in reality they don't even really know that either. Or matbe they are on someting maybe!?!?!? I had a reeal expensive one and I needed something else to think I was actually having fun..........but when I came down I was depressed. NEVER AGAIN!

True. You just have to change your way of thinking when riding one. I had a really customized/modified Dyna. It was really difficult to "switch gears" after a sportbike jaunt. But it has it's place. From my experience, the H-D is much more about being seen & bonding with a group; than about actually riding. The Sportbike thing is much more indivitual. Don't need to impress anyone, don't mind riding alone, etc.

Basically paid FULL MSRP (before $1K price reduction). Will be lucky to get $6300 in trade.

Me either. Just the way it is, and probably the way it always will be with sportbike's resale value.

My bike cost me MSRP and a couple of points here and there on the license and many smiles.

And a couple of 'Oh, Shit!'s as well.

Would do it again in a heartbeat. Actually, it is still sitting at the Kawi dealership waiting for a good home - and I always take a long glance, smile, and notice the folks in the lot eyeballing it.

I bought my 03 with 4,500 miles.. Slip-on (yoshimura), frame sliders, bars, and Corbin seat.. Paid $6,990 OTD... Had a crack on upper fairing from tie down damage but otherwise primo.. I feel fortunate to have gotten it.. I financed it on a Kawasaki credit card and bought state required liability insurance for $178 a year.. I've only ridden it enough to burn one tank of gas but I'm stoked. I have ridden a 99 ZRX since new and the 12R seems like it was built just for me.... smiles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had this conversation before, and it's true, you have to look at it in a "riding" aspect. Every time I take mine up through the gears,it was soooo worth it. My poor-mans Ferrari. It's truely a special machine compared to the other sportbikes.I bought mine new for 10k in Nov. '00,have had more good times than I can say, totaled it on Easter sat. '03,rebuilt it,did a track day and it is still 100%. A bit uglier tho....
Think I'll throw in a fresh set of plugs this year, still originals in there.Hmmm, better check those valves again while I'm in there too.
20k hard miles,no regrets.Even if I paid the $11,999.Well worth the extra 2k.Go out and give your 12 a hug.

I bought mine in crate on Dec of 2000 and picked it up March of 2001 for 10,300 out the door and a few other perks. I don't care what it's worth to someone else, it's worth a lot more to me still. I hope to have a another bike right next to it in a year and I'm keeping that one too..

me too, necro, $13000 OTD!

In may of 2000, my job moved from Venezuela to Houston, so I sold my ZX11 in Caracas, called up dealers in Houston and "negotiated" the best deal I could.

On the way from the airport to the hotel in Houston (rentacar full of wife, kids, suit cases), I stopped at the dealer to get the 1st look at my brand new 12.
