Changing Tire on the Road

Has anyone here had a flat on the road? How did you change the tire without a center stand? I haven't had one yet, but am concerned about how I would pull the wheel off, etc. without a center stand.

there is a company (dont know the name) that makes a tiny little rod that u can prop under the swingarm on the opposite side of the kickstand and it brings the back end off the ground. nice and compant so u can keep it in the trunk. it's essentially a second sidestand. but persoanlly, i always carry a plug kit with me and just plug it till i get to a dealership to have a new tire thrown on (or more likely, i jsut ride the bike with the plug till it's toast anyway). only thing is u need to be close to a service station to get air, or carry one of those air cylinders with u.

quickstand.....

freek, I believe the item you speak of is called a quickstand. Probably not suited for a tire change though.

The easiest is to plug it, and then use a mini tire inflator to fill it until you can get it off the road or to a proper repair stop.

A tear or gash, of course is not repairable, but a puncture is.

I have had a couple of punctures, one in the middle of the everglades, and this little baby is the shizzitt!!

and you can get it at

any autostore/Walmart will have a plug kit. Worth its weight in gold!!

We changed a valve stem in the middle of nowhere. Piled the Busa up on some rocks. Luckily we had a big group of guys to 'help'.

Then we used an inflater like the one above (which, by the way, I carry with me when I was on the road) to inflate and reseat the bead.

Couple of guys went to a WalMart a good ways away to get our 'tire irons' which were some crow bars.

The guy that invented the "Quickstand" owns a Busa. I have changed rear tires with this tool, and used it to lube the chain on the road. I do not know what I would do for a front tire, but I think I would remove the right side fairing and prop the bike up under the engine case!

I haven't had a flat on a motorcycle since 1972, but I read where a guy with a ZX12 in Holland had three in one year, so I began to worry about it. It sounds like there are ways to handle it and I appreciate the suggestions and responses. I would really rather have the ZX instead of the ZZR anyway.

Made my own "qwik stand" out of an old ski pole.
It is great for lubing your chain, was a popular item on the Laguna trip last year.

Works great, cost nothing.

I have the QuickStand...great for cleaning/lubing the chain..not that stable for tire changes, but could be IF there's two other riders with you to stabilize the bike as you wrestle with the R&R...so I carry a plug kit and some CO2 to, as some people say, get me to a proper motorcycle shop...but why am I telling you guys this?...you guys are all fags!

Worm Hole, I carry the exact same things, but also a flash light! With my luck, it will happen in the dark. One year at Daytona, I had a new tire, but did not bring it and had 3 punctures on the same day and plugged them all! The next day had to buy a new tire. Been blessed after that!

Used to use a chunk of 2x4 under one side of the swingarm in the garage for lubing the chain, then thought about making something portable,. Never did until the Quickstand came out. Nice piece that Quickstand, adjustable too, well worth the money. I keep a homemade one under my seat along with a plug and CO2 inflator kit. In fact I gave a couple away at DG1, Crotchrocket got one of 'em. Good idea on pulling the fairing V, looks like I gotta make up an engine adapter. (Be sure to velcro that front brake.)
