external fuel pump

Has anyone removed their internal pump and replaced it with an external fuel pump? If so, what were the mods needed to perform this change?

I don't see a need to do so unless you're running a big turbo

I would think the pump is ok, the regulator seems abit small.
I would remove the tank from under the seat area and put a small 1 gallon unit in the tail so you can get a lower CG. Depending on how much fuel your motor needs, something like a Walbro pump will work.

TB,
how would a tank in the tail give a lower CG than just a gal in the bottom of the stock tank????? (tail is higher, eh?)

Because 2 gallons and a tank would weigh between 15 and 20 pounds, but the rider weighs between 120 and 250 pounds! Lowering the rider is key here??

Here's a thought: the fuel pump takes up space in the tank. What about removing the pump and installing an inline pump with higher volume output? This would give us a little more volume in the tank...and a little more range is good.

In the case of wet nitrous systems the fuel lines could then be tee'd off and used with a second fuel pressure regulator to lower the pressure down to 5-10 psi (whatever the prefered pressure is based on tuning). I have heard talk of our pumps having barely enough volume to handle 200 hp, and I am aware of the Muzzy pump, but am curious about any other options.

How about removing the pump and regulator and pressurise the tank using nitrous oxide controlled by a regulator.
On my Bandit I use an adjustable pressure regulator fed from a nos bottle, it's set to provide about 120psi for my air shifter.
Adjust the pressure to about 70psi and it would be perr-fect!!

STOP RIGHT THERE (best Meat Loaf voice) It only takes a FEW psi to blow your tank up like a very expensive balloon, and maybe, just maybe remove you from the gene pool. The tank is not a pressure vessel.
Think for a minute here, a "cube" 12" on a side has 864 square inches of surface area. At 70 psi, that's a total load of over 60,000 pounds. Think something might just let go? And the internal area of your fuel tank is quite a bit larger than that.
Anyway, your N2O system only needs about 4-5 psi. The factory FI needs no more than 50psi. It is not pressure you seek but flow.
Get off the NOS,Rob

ok aback to the orignal question. Has anyone ever done this mod. Converting your tank into a gravity feed system and run an external fuel pump?

Sure, I did it on my Bonneville 12 the first year when I suspected I was running out of fuel at W.O.T. before we (Muzzys) sourced the "in tank" pump we now sell, which solved the problem much more neatly.
