They call me the breeze or you better run sucka

What is the worse that could happen legally, if you did run from the cops while on the bike and they did somehow catch you?

Oh, let's see:

Felony fleeing, wreckless driving, counts of red light running....not to mention the possible ass-whoopin' by adrenaline geeked cops with nightsticks. Possible time in jail (and requisite corn hole reaming).

Insurance problems, bike towing (repair damage to bike done by careless tow truck driver and also stolen stuff from your bike). Not to mention court costs, lawyer fees, bail money for jail. Plus the three years of insurance costs for your car now that you have a bad driving record - and the cost of insurance (if you can get it) for your bike.

You can think about what else would happen if you wrecked or cause someone else to wreck whilst running.

Personally, if you are caught in the District doing 30+ over the speed limit, they arrest you! You do not need to ask me how I know! If I had known that, I could have gotten away and I would have, where this happened! To me, being arrested is the same as being arrested, so they would have to catch me the next time in the same position! I ended up getting an attorney $750 paying a $200 fine and no points because they did not give me a ticket for speeding, but for felony speed. Since it was pleeded to 29 MPH over, no points! "Almost" worth it because the points would have been 12!

I dont think that a single traffic offense would get you 12 points...regardless of what it was.

Brian, I am not speaking of what I think! I am speaking from What Happened! "You may not THINK" But I KNOW! Randall was stopped for speeding in Virginia 100 in a 65 and was let go by the Police (Said the truth, he was on his way to see his Sick Grandmother which she was) but as soon as the ticket crossed into the DC DMV, he was sent a notice that his license was suspended for 6 months (12 points) and because he had a fe other tickets, he had a total of 16 points on his license. When the 6 months were up, he got his license back but still had 16 points! When he got another ticket in January the next year, he had to get out of the ticket or lose his license again for 6 months (Actually 3 months because 4 points were coming off in April).

BTW, Drunk Driving is a "Single Traffic Offense" that also gets you 12 points! I think Hit and Run is another "Single Traffic Offense" that gets you 12 points! You nice legal law abiding citizens of Bikeland! It must be nice not to know the "Real World"!

WOW! only 6 points! They just changed the law (I think early last year) that the points stay on for 2 years. It used to be 3 years! Hell, it is 4 points in DC for any speeding! In Ohio, 1 to 5 mph, with no other points, you get no points! 5 to 10 mph, and you get 1 point and it is removed if no other violations in 1 year! You must go 11+ over to get 2 points in Ohio, so I know the states vary! I think 30 over in Ohio (Reckless like in DC) but in Ohio, it is 6 points! So it is where you live!

It stays on for 3 years in FL too...but its 12pts/12mo...24pts/24mo etc etc over a sliding scale.

Its a 4 point ticket if you are doing over 15mph of posted limit.

Well this is what id do if it were for somthing small like a ticket I would pull over but if I did somthing bad and it's jail, F the cops make it short and sweet and hide you don't want to make the news or get cut off by some asshole cop and crash.
I have a friend with a ZX6 that runs from them every chance he gets and to this day has never been caught he also does'nt have a plate on his bike.
Last summer a buddy did a wheelie and the cops pulled us over all they did was tell him to slow down.

No room for the donuts on a ZX12R...They'd be riding ZZR1200s with bags.

To add to Jonathan's post...

Speeding (the can just make something up and in this case it would stick)
Felony fleeing (when the light go on and the gas is turned up)
Running red lights (multiple counts)
Illegal lane changes (multiple counts)
Reckless endangerment (multiple counts)
Impounding of you bike (with tow & storage fees)
Guaranteed jail (your time may vary)
Bail
Lawyer fees
Violation fines (minimum $100 per violation)
Court costs
Suspension of driver's license ($150 to reinstate after suspension)
Insurance cost increases on any vehicle in your name (if you can even get insurance)
Any damage to the bike as a result of the chase, towing or storage

IF you did not cause someone else or the cops to wreck during the chase AND if you did not wreck (with the possibility of injury and a ambulance ride/hospitalizing)... not counting insurance, your looking at somewhere around a couple of grand. Odds are it will be even more.

Throw in the 3 years of increased insurance costs and you'd easily top $4,000 to $5,000. Not too bad for a "lil' run down the road", eh?

I know I'll probably get put in jail one day. I stopped one time, clocked doing 87 in a 55. Pulled right over, didn't cut me any slack (florida highway patrol) I haven't stopped since but I don't usually speed too much in town.I was born and raised here in my home town and lived here all my life(except for the 21 years I spent in the air force) so I know the roads really well.If Im in another town I will not run.
My step mom used to work as a dispatcher for the sheriffs dept here was talking to a deputy who rides a zx-9 he was telling here about a green motorcycle that blew past him on a highway. He was telling here how he was going to put that bastard in jail when he caught him and she told him he would never catch him. He then said to her"do you know who this is?" To which she replied "yes, he's my son and you will never catch him" I nor anyone else can out run a motorola.Luck plays a big part in whether you get nailed or not.Your luck always runs out eventually.

Fellas,

I wasn't saying I would or advocating that someone do....please refer to the disclaimer that indemnifies me and the Co. please.
Just a bit of lazy afternoon snow day dreaming wondering what if. Seems like every summer there is a guy who gets popped for it and I can't help but wonder how many dudes get away that they don't put in the papers.
"Today, again, another scofflaw managed to easily elude police, many police. C'mon lets all laugh out loud at the police!" I am sure it happens but the list of consequences you more responsible types dropped on my winter daydream killed that one.
You forgot to say what would happen if a zx scofflaw ran over tiny tim on the way to the crutch shop. How would there be a Christmas!
I make jokes, but I for one am too big a chicken to run. But I can dream dammit, I can dream.

I thought it was a "simple" question. After being pulled over on my bike 29 times and still have a clean driving record (done "probation" in three counties)... it'll be that one time I really wasn't doing anything "bad" that I'll get pulled over, only to realize I should have just ran.

The only problem is that even though Arkansas has a lot of great twisty highways, I spend enough time on just about all of them and if I did run, that same redneck deputy I flew past six months ago will still be looking for me... and now he's really pissed.

A guy I used to ride with tried to run from a state cop here in Michigan. He was doing about 90 on the hwy when he got radared and decieded to bail. The cop lost him very quickly. He stopped behind a gas station to hide when a local city cop pulled up, asked him what he was doing, and called the state cops telling them "I think I got your runner"

He was arrested, spent Memorial weekend in jail as nobody was available to arraign him. I believe he spent about $2000 on a lawyer, a similar amount on fines and lost his license for one year. He also lost his job as he could no longer drive which was required in his position. He shortly there after had to give up his apartment and move out of town and back in with his father. He was 26 years old.

Let this be a lesson to all who consider running...

DON'T STOP BEHIND THE GAS STATION,

In my younger days, I probably ran a dozen times or so in all. I wouldn't do it today. I have too much to lose these days.

Lets see possible 10,000-15,000 just the first three years after the arrest.

Fines+Lawyer+Insurance=10,000 -15,000 $$$ Thats if you did'nt cause an accident. If someone is badly hurt/killed You could do 6-12 or months or longer in jail, Lose your job, Your wife, House, Everything.

Best not to get caught.

Here in Ohio 30 mph over and you start gaining additional points for MPH over. 100 mph in 55mph zone in Ohio you will lose your lic, A 100 in a 65 zone and You might get outta court with 8-10 points. Depends.

Anything over a 100mph the Ohio BMV does not address in their handbook. But In Ohio the Ohio Highway Patrol have strict guide lines and are not allowed to pursue Sportbikes if they don't stop. A County Sherriff will pursue you, And the local cops and Sherriff will lay down tire sticks, But the State Troopers will not.

Your best bet when running hard is picking roads on county line away from county seat. The Dep, Sherriffs around here don't venture too far away from county seat. But you could see a State Trooper anywhere anytime.

State Trooper told me when someone runs on a bike they tend to wreck themself by going into the first turn too fast. He said he follows behind looking in ditchs for rider down.
