PETRONAS Sprinta Racing ends first day of Moto2 Qatar testing with strong results2020-02-28 13:34
The PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Moto2 squad of Xavi Vierge and Jake Dixon have ended the first day of Qatar testing with strong results at the 5.4km long Losail International Circuit, with Vierge second overall and Dixon 16th.
Following on from a strong test in Jerez, Vierge has been able to take advantage of the rubber laid down by the Moto3 competitors, to consistently lap within the top-six throughout all three sessions. The Spaniard was among the first riders to lap within the 1min 59secs today and enjoyed a solid three sessions of increasing track time. Xavi finished the day second in the overall standings with a fastest lap of 1min 59.400secs from the 50 laps completed.
Team-mate Dixon, who came into this test after picking up a minor injury in Jerez, was able to get his head down and focus on ensuring that he had a good affinity with the bike. Although he was being careful not to overstress his finger, Jake was able to complete 44 laps across the three sessions with his Triumph-powered Kalex machinery. The Brit’s fastest lap of 2min 0.130secs meant that he finished the day 16th overall.
Moto2 track action will resume at 10.35am local time (8.35am CET and 7.35am GMT) tomorrow with day two at Losail International Circuit coming to an end at 5.15pm local time (3.15pm CET and 2.15pm GMT).
The condition of the track today was a bit difficult, the first session was too windy but we were still able to work on a lot. We started with our normal base setting and then changed a few bits, improving the pace a lot. In the final session we made a half-race simulation and I feel really good with the pace we had, plus we made a fast lap time on the last lap. So I’m really happy with this and over the next two days we will continue with the same focus on the rhythm.
