Positive momentum continues for Norrodin in Australia

Adam Norrodin’s positive momentum has continued in qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix, with the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Moto2 rider ready to race tomorrow at Phillip Island after making the best of bad conditions to qualify 30th for the race.

Battling high winds and wet and dry changeable conditions, Norrodin faced a tough start to Saturday as gusts of up to 100kph hit the seaside circuit. However, going into qualifying he was able to dig deep to deliver a lap time of 1min 37.376secs, ending the day three seconds from the leaders or his fifth appearance as a stand-in for the injured Khairul Idham Pawi. Penalties for other riders mean that he will line up 29th on the grid tomorrow.

Moto2 track action at the Australian GP concludes tomorrow with the 25-lap race scheduled to get underway at 1320 local time (1020 Malaysian time), although weather conditions at Phillip Island could leave this liable to change.

“Today’s conditions were the worst imaginable because you never knew when the wind was going to gust and push you out wide. It meant that this morning I had zero confidence, and I was struggling quite a bit. In qualifying I sat down alone beforehand and tried to concentrate, and I surprised myself a little bit with my speed. The most positive thing is that even after such a hard day, we’re still not far away from the fastest guys. The forecast for tomorrow looks a bit better than today, and hopefully we can take another step forward. We need to finish the race and I want to be closer to the winner, so tomorrow I need to push harder to stay in the group at the beginning.”
