Steep learning curve for Norrodin in Japan

2019-10-20 15:17
PETRONAS Sprinta Racing rider Adam Norrodin had a challenging start to his first Moto2 outing at the Twin Ring Motegi but made a 1.5 second lap time improvement between sessions on the first day of preparations for the Grand Prix of Japan.

Norrodin ended Friday with a lap time of 1min 54.311secs to narrow the gap to the leaders by a second with the improvement coming through set-up changes to the bike enabling greater confidence in the afternoon.

With rain forecast for tomorrow at the Japanese track, Norrodin is likely to gain first experience of the Triumph-powered Kalex machine in wet conditions.

The 2019 Moto2 World Championship continues at the Grand Prix of Japan tomorrow with practice at 0955 local time (0855 Malaysian time) and qualifying at 1330 (1230 Malaysian time), ahead of Sunday’s 22-lap race.

“FP1 wasn’t a great session for me, with much less confidence on the bike than I had last time out in Thailand. We made big changes for the afternoon, and as soon as I jumped onto it I felt much better. I was able to improve my lap time from the morning with a used tyre, and when I put on new tyres I found a second and a half all at once! I’m delighted with the day’s work even though it was a difficult start, and it’s positive that we were able to find the problem and fix it so quickly. With that done, the job for tomorrow is to see what we can do to close down the gap even more. It looks like tomorrow is going to be wet, but I’ve not ridden this bike in the wet yet and I’m curious to see how it goes.”
