Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Forkner and Davalos Set To Line Up For Penultimate Eastern Regional Round in New Jersey2019-04-25 08:47
Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Austin Forkner and Martin Davalos are nearing the end of the Eastern Regional Championship with the penultimate round taking place this weekend at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, just outside New York City. Davalos comes off a victory from the last round in Nashville, hoping that win will give him a boost to try and earn back-to-back victories. Teammate Forkner has been rehabbing an injury from the Nashville round and with therapy going well is looking to line up on Saturday.
In a post-race press conference, Davalos explained that the injuries he endured in 2018 were still affecting him in 2019 but he had done extensive work to alleviate the pain. What he did worked as he rode to a dominating victory in Nashville - a feat he’s hoping to repeat in New Jersey.
“The time off between the last race and this race has been helpful to continue making progress with some of the lingering injuries I’ve been dealing with,” said Davalos. “I’m hoping that it makes me that much stronger to come out swinging in New Jersey and prove that it was not a fluke but I belong on the podium.”
Forkner’s injury kept him from racing in Nashville, but the dominant performances he’s put in so far this season afforded him a big enough separation over his rivals that he still sits five points ahead in the championship standings. After putting in the work at physical therapy, Forkner has made positive strides in his recovery to feel confident enough to line up on Saturday.
“I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how well the therapy has been going on my knee and I’ve really been trying to keep a positive attitude about the situation,” said Forkner. “The whole team has been really supportive and doing everything they can to make sure I have what I need to try and bring them home a championship.”
The Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki riders will be signing autographs on Friday, April 26 from 6 - 7 p.m. at Motorcycle Mall in Belleville, New Jersey.
Saturday’s race from MetLife Stadium will be broadcast LIVE on NBC Sports starting on Saturday, April 27 at 5 p.m. ET. Note the earlier than normal broadcast time.
