Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki Remains Undefeated On The East Coast With Davalos Victory2019-04-08 07:45
Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Martin Davalos broke through for his first win since 2016, leading every lap inside Nissan Stadium. The victory also continued the team’s win-streak on the east coast and brought the team’s total wins this season to 10. Championship point’s leader Austin Forkner suffered a crash in practice that forced him to sit out of the night show, but still retains the championship lead by three points with two rounds remaining.
Knowing he was the team’s sole representation for the evening, Davalos stepped up and started the night off right collecting his first heat race win of the season. He found a confidence and speed that he was able to translate into the main.
When the gate dropped, Davalos came around the first turn in fifth, but quickly capitalize on a crash in front of him and took over the lead right before the end of the first lap. With a clear track, he was able to ride his own race and developed a gap of over 10 seconds at one point. When he saw the last lane leading to the finish, he slowed a bit seeing his first victory in almost two years and ended up winning by 3.5 seconds.
“I’ve been going through a lot these past few weeks trying to get some answers on why I’ve still been in pain in my neck and we were able to make some progress since Indy,” said Davalos. “Even though I still have a ways to go, it helped just enough to keep me competitive and get the win. I am really happy to be back on top, especially after a tough day for the team. I’m looking forward to a few more weeks off before finishing out the season.”
Forkner started the day finishing in the top spot of first timed qualifying. After going down in that practice he tried to ride the next and final practice, ending up third overall in qualifying. The team eventually made the decision that he would sit out of the night show and see the doctor on Monday to get a more detailed diagnosis and timeframe for returning.
