Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki Take Red Plate to Arlington With Hopes of Four Wins in a Row2019-02-13 16:33
Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Austin Forkner turns his sites to Arlington, Texas, after coming off a dominating win in Minneapolis. The No. 24 will be adorned in red this weekend as Forkner enters Round 2 as the Eastern Regional points leader, making him the man to beat as the team tries to go after four wins in a row. Martin Davalos is ready to bounce back from an opening round that didn’t produce the result he was looking for to start the season, though he showcased that he’s capable of running up front.
Forkner knows that after a solid ride comes the even harder task of backing it up and he’s ready to tackle that very challenge. Now in his third year of supercross competition, the 20-year-old proved he can settle in and make good choices when on the track. Forkner isn’t a stranger to holding the red plate, but hopes his experience will help him keep it this time.
“When watching film of the race, I know the rest of the field was running really quick, but I was able to keep my mistakes to a minimum and hold the gap,” said Forkner. “The field isn’t going to make it easy on me so I have to stay focused, get good starts and hit my lines. I’m very thankful to the people who are behind me and the time they take to make sure I’m at my best when I hit the track.”
For Davalos, he’s eager to forget the bad and move forward with the positives learned from the opening round. He got great starts and was running with his teammate at the start of the main event, something he wants to replicate again this weekend.
“The pace was really fast in Minneapolis so getting good starts will be important if you want to try and be there at the end,” said Davalos. “If the front guys get away too quickly, it will be tough to come through the pack. I am focused on staying positive because my result in Minneapolis wasn’t what I was capable of. We’ll do better this weekend.”
The Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki riders will be signing autographs on Friday, February 15 from 6 - 7 p.m. at Freedom Powersports in Fort Worth, Texas.
Saturday’s race from AT&T Stadium will be broadcast LIVE on NBC Sports starting on Saturday, February 16 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
