Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki Finish Inside The Top 10 in Tennessee

2018-06-25 08:38
Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy and Austin Forkner both collected top-10 finishes at the series’ only round in the South at Muddy Creek Raceway. Savatgy tallied his third top-10 effort, while Forkner earned his fourth. For the first time in several years, the temperatures were under 90 degrees, making for less brutal conditions than normal.

Looking for redemption at Muddy Creek, Savatgy started the day with solid qualifying sessions. He didn’t get the jump he wanted in Moto 1 and came around the first lap in eighth. Savatgy remained persistent and moved into sixth by the end of the moto. The second moto Savatgy came around the first lap in 13th, leaving him with plenty of ground to make up. He eventually fell into a groove and rode well at the end to finish seventh, giving him sixth overall.

“This track is pretty easy to fall in line with the rider in front of you, making it hard to make clean passes,” said Savatgy. “That first moto it was tough to get by guys, but I’m glad I learned a few places to pass because I needed it after that tough start in Moto 2. Overall, I felt good and know we can pick it back up at Southwick.”

Forkner has proven he’s capable of running up front, but was plagued with tough starts in Tennessee. In Moto 1, he was seventh after the first lap and raced up to fifth. He was 10th in Moto 2 off the start, but on Lap 3 ended up tipping over and lost eight spots. He worked his way into the top 10 and eventually crossed the finish line in ninth. His 5-9 score placed Forkner eighth overall.

“I’m bummed that I couldn’t get the starts that would have put me in contention at the front,” said Forkner. “I seemed to ride a little bit better in the second moto even after going down. It’s a learning week. We know we have the speed so we’ll see if we can put it together next weekend.”
