Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup testing starts!2018-02-19 09:43
The Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup is about to get underway for 2018 at Sepang International Circuit, near the Malaysian metropolis of Kuala Lumpur. The 5.5 km track has ten right-handers and five left, and stages both testing and some big Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup events later on the calendar.
The first two days of track action for the class of 2018 get underway on the 19th February, with some new faces joining veterans of the series to get their first look at the new season. On the first step on the Road to MotoGP™, each of the 20 riders on the grid will want to hit the ground running as they begin their careers.
This year there are participants from seven different countries across Asia and Oceania, and Japan is the most prolific country on the entry list with six representatives. Next is Indonesia with five riders, with Thailand, the Philippines, Australia, Qatar and the host nation for the test and first race weekend, Malaysia, all also represented – another incredible cross section of talent as the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup continues its mission to find the best young riders from this part of the world.
There’s an incredible host of new faces for this season, with 14 riders chosen in the Selection Event and rookies therefore outnumbering the veterans. Will experience pay off? Or is the 2018 Champion waiting in the wings as a rookie?
The two days of testing at Sepang will give us our first clue on February 19th and 20th, before the grid head to the Grand Prix of Qatar in March to open the season alongside MotoGP™.
