The very successful first edition of the Yamaha VR46 Master Camp saw five students be mentored by none less than Valentino Rossi, the VR46 Riders Academy, three-time English Flat Track Champion and two-time American and European Flat Track Champion Marco Belli, and many others. Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. and the VR46 Riders Academy now return with a second edition of this young talent-nourishing project, to be held from September 14th – 18th, 2016.

Similar to the first edition (you can see the final video review of the 1st Master Camp HERE), the participants for the second Yamaha VR46 Master Camp programme were chosen by Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd among young Yamaha riders from Asia, based on their Asia Production 250 (the AP250 class) points standings in the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) as of round four in Indonesia, their age and other factors.

The new Yamaha VR46 Master Camp rider line-up includes two Thai riders, two Indonesian riders, one Japanese rider and one Malaysian rider. Among them are familiar faces, riders that have already been part of the inaugural combined Yamaha VR46 Master Camp and VR46 Riders Academy training, but also new talent that will be warmly welcomed to the expanding family.

The second edition of the Yamaha VR46 Master Camp will again be hosted by Rossi‘s VR46 Riders Academy in the region of Rossi‘s hometown, Tavullia, Italy. There the Master Camp riders will receive training in dirt track riding at the Motor Ranch, track riding at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, and other activities such as racing with go-karts and physical fitness training in the gym, all with the goal of helping them progress further as racers.

I am happy and excited to start talking again about the Yamaha VR46 Master Camp, this time because the second edition is about to start. The first Master Camp in July was an extremely positive experience for all people and companies involved. On a sporting level it exceeded anybody‘s expectations because the riders selected by Yamaha were really fast in all disciplines. Yamaha's selection was excellent. Peerapong, Galang, Soichiro, Kasma and Imanuel were very motivated and also very proud to wear the Master Camp uniforms. Also for the VR46 Academy riders it was a great and unique experience as they played the role as “trainers” for the first time in their lives! The first Master Camp created a nice group that worked perfectly together and all goals we had in our minds were achieved. Now that we have the experience of the first edition, we aim to take the Master Camp to the “next level” and provide the young Yamaha riders with some more “tips” to become professional riders. One day, who knows, the Master Camp riders and the VR46 Academy riders will be on track competing against each other for a world title! I am sure it‘s going to be another week filled with sweat and fun!

Notes

In an effort to support young Italian riders aiming to become world-class racers, Valentino Rossi decided to put his vast experience and knowledge from his many years of racing to good use in 2014 and established the VR46 Riders Academy.

In March 2016 Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. entered into a formal three-year partnership agreement with the VR46 Riders Academy as an Official Partner and also as its Official Motorcycle Supplier.

July of this year Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. and the VR46 Riders Academy staged the inaugural Yamaha VR46 Master Camp with the goal of helping selected young Yamaha talent make their way in the racing world by increasing their skills and experience.

The Yamaha VR46 Master Camp is a non-profit programme put together by Yamaha and its partners together with the VR46 Riders Academy. The riders for the first and second edition of the Yamaha VR46 Master Camp were selected by the Asian Yamaha distributors. The line-up is based on the riders‘ talent and promise in the racing industry. A place in the Yamaha VR46 Master Camp can‘t be bought.

In the future Yamaha aims to do a similar programme with other Yamaha distributors in other parts of the world.

Yamaha is currently in the process of creating a step-up model and system to provide tier-based opportunities for young riders to further develop their careers.
