Podium Topping Performances from Johansson Yamaha Junior Enduro Team in Greece2016-05-23 10:29
Competing alongside the Outsiders Yamaha Official Enduro 2 Team and Miglio Yamaha Official Enduro 1 Team in the 2016 Enduro World Championship is the Johansson Yamaha Junior Enduro Team - the Swedish based squad focused on youth rider development.
Lead by experienced former world championship racer Joakim Johansson the Johansson Yamaha Junior Enduro Team is set to contest all European rounds of the 2016 Enduro World Championship with two riders entered into the Enduro Youth class. Both competing aboard enduro modified YZ125 machines the team have so far enjoyed notable success with up-and-coming Swedish youngster Erik Appelqvist.
Currently third in the Enduro Youth championship standings despite having missed the series' opening event in Morocco, the tall Swede has finished on the podium each time out at the GPs of Portugal and Greece also earning an impressive tally of three day wins from some of the most challenging EWC events of recent memory.
Ahead of the two Scandinavian rounds of this year's Enduro World Championship series - the second being the Johansson team's home race in Sweden - Appelqvist currently sits third in the 125cc Enduro Youth championship standings. Competing alongside the Swede is British youngster Lee Sealey. Finishing as runner-up on day two in Portugal, further point scoring rides on day one in Portugal and day two in Greece have resulted in the former trials rider sitting sixth in the EY standings.
With one day win, three runner-up results and two third place finishes to his credit Yamaha mounted Equipe de France d'Enduro de l'Armée de Terre - FFM rider Jean-Baptiste Nicolot currently leads the Enduro Youth championship standings with Valerian Debaud, yet another Yamaha rider, holding the championship runner-up position.
