EnduroCross Women Resume Championship Battle This Weekend

2015-09-23 08:30
The women are often what fans are talking about as they head for the exits at the end of an evening of GEICO EnduroCross racing. The ladies often have multiple lead changes among several riders and the winner is determined on the last lap. In fact, Canada’s Lexi Pechout took the 2014 championship with a last lap pass from third to first in the final corner. And 2015 is shaping up to be another exciting run to the championship.

The top four women will enter this weekend’s Sacramento round separated by only eight points. Shelby Turner currently holds the lead with 73 points followed by Pechout, the defending champion, five points back. Beta’s Morgan Tanke is just seven points off the lead and Rachel Gutish, the teenager that just represented the US at the ISDE in Slovakia, is eight points behind in fourth.

Spain’s Sandra Gomez has taken two wins this season and is only nine point’s back but she suffered an injury and is hoping for a doctor’s clearance to compete this weekend in Sacramento.

For the women’s class, the riders will be allowed to drop their lowest score after the penultimate round in Boise, Idaho. And then they will face off in the championship deciding final round at the Citizen’s Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California on Saturday, November 21st.

To add a little more interest for the ladies and fans that like to cheer them on, the female riders will be provided a free entry in a second class. So we may see a few of the women competing with the men in the Open Amateur or Vet classes.
