Holcombe takes top-spot in latest British Sprint Enduro Championship U-23 for Crescent KTM

Crescent KTM’s rising Enduro star Steve Holcombe further confirmed his potential by winning the latest Under-23 round of the British Sprint Enduro Championships at Westwood near Sheffield last Sunday.

Despite heavy rain on Saturday evening and throughout the night, the track was in great condition on race-day and Holcombe took hold of the event from the off and was straight on the pace. With the sun shining, the track dried during the day and Holcombe recorded the first four lap-times well within the projected six-and-a-half minutes. He was in the top-five overall in the morning around the tricky forest-based Yorkshire circuit, which included a rocky river, a section down through and then up a deep gully, tight twisty trees and a area of jumps and bomb holes.

Holcombe nearly had a costly accident in the first afternoon test when he hit a tree on his KTM 250EXC-F, striking his shoulder in the process. The incident cost Holcombe some valuable seconds, but he was able to carry-on racing and quickly found his rhythm again to record fast enough times to take first place in the Under-23 event. At the end of the day Holcombe was almost a minute ahead of his nearest rival and that secured the third consecutive win of the series for the Devon-based racer.

Team-mate Daryl Bolter was missing from the event at Westwood as he continues to recover from his shoulder and rib injuries. He hopes to be fit enough to compete in the final rounds of the BSEC over the weekend of 31st August – 1st September at Chacombe, near Banbury.

Steve Holcombe:

"Another great weekend for me on the Crescent KTM, this time at Sheffield. The track was great and required a lot of thought to ride fast and I was pleased with my lap-times in the morning, placing me within the top-five overall and well ahead of the Under- 23 class. The first test of the afternoon saw me hit a fairly big tree and scuffing my shoulder up. The accident caused me some problems and the last two laps weren't great as a few mistakes meant I was unable to do certain lines, but I still came away with the overall in the Under-23 class and close to a minute ahead. I would like to thank Steve Dopson and Dave Coles for coming up to support me and everyone else who helped at the weekend. It’s been great to get three wins in a row and with two rounds left in the season the Under-23 championship is still all to play for!”
