HOME GP FOR ROCKSTAR ENERGY SUZUKI EUROPE2012-09-20 00:06
The Grand Prix of Germany and the 16th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship will represent the last major international event for the Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe team this weekend.
The crew will be hoping to sign off the year at the Talkessel circuit, just outside the hamlet of Teutschenthal and their home meeting, with Julien Lieber taking another positive result. Two weeks ago the young Belgian rode to a personal best 10th position at the Grand Prix of Europe in what was just his third appearance on the works RM-Z250.
What was important about Lieber's achievement in Italy was that his race bike carried components of the 2013 RM-Z250 and the team will continue to work and gather data on the material this weekend across the banks and low jumps of the swirling German hard-pack layout.
"We used the 2013 chassis for the first time at Faenza and we pushed it straight into a race situation with Julien, so we were throwing him in at the deep end slightly," commented Team Technical Co-ordinator Jens Johansson. "His comments were positive and the results were good so that is a positive first step this early into trying something this new.
"Julien also used it in the final round of the ADAC MX Masters last weekend and from the feedback and from what we have seen so far, the 2013 version should have a bit more torsion stiffness and in theory should lead to even more stability," he adds.
"We will start testing the week after the 'Nations and get a full three-week schedule done in October. That is where the main work will be done, as we need to get the engine and set-up ready to cope with the new noise regulations. This will be the challenge."
The team will count on a keen fan base this weekend thanks to Marcus Schiffer and Jeremy Seewer taking national German titles this season. Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe will also outline an exciting direction for the future with an announcement in front of the international press on Saturday evening.
The long-term weather forecast for what is set to be another busy two days at Talkessel points to dry but cloudy skies and reasonable temperatures.
