Jeremy McGrath Continues Marrow Drives for Wife, Kim - THIS Week in Carlsbad

2012-05-21 23:18
WHAT: Transworld Media and Wasserman Media Group will be hosting a bone marrow registry drive for Kim McGrath, wife of pro Motocross and Supercross athlete Jeremy McGrath, who was recently diagnosed with Leukemia Cutis, a form of leukemia affecting the skin.
Be The Match ® will be on-site and taking cheek swabs from all registry participants to add them to the national bone marrow donor registry. The painless procedure takes less than a minute and could potentially help save a life.

WHO: Several local Carlsbad companies will be donating raffle items to raise money and awareness for Kim McGrath’s Bone Marrow Registry Drive, including:
Transworld Media
Wasserman Media Group
SPY
K1 Speed
Nixon
El Nopalito will be providing lunch to all Registry participants from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm

WHEN: Wednesday, May 23rd from 11am – 6pm

WHERE: Transworld Media Skate Park
2052 Corte del Nogal, Carlsbad, CA 92011
(Back Building, behind the Wasserman Media Group and Transworld Media offices)

WHY: Every year, thousands of people of all ages are diagnosed with blood cancers like leukemia or lymphoma, sickle cell anemia or other life-threatening diseases. Many of them will die unless they get a bone marrow transplant from a matching donor. Seventy percent of people do not have a donor in their family and depend on Be The Match ® Registry to find a match to save their life.

Kim McGrath was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago and underwent several surgeries and treatment. A recent biopsy revealed that she has leukemia cutis. She is now undergoing chemotherapy and will subsequently require a bone marrow transplant. Her husband, Jeremy McGrath, is asking volunteers to sign up for a bone marrow drive as soon as possible in hopes of finding a match for her.
